"Consoles are becoming sophisticated PCs which sit in the living room... We'll have to see how all this develops. Maybe in five years you won't need a console because you'll have one PC which delivers content all over your house."
Ben Bassat confirmed that Blizzard has no plans to bring hugely popular MMORPG World of Warcraft to consoles - but did say that the company is keeping a close eye on the next-gen machines, particularly with regard to the online space.
"Online console gaming is still in its very early stages, and it needs to be developed further to provide opportunities of a scale which will be interesting to us," he explained.
"So when we come to develop a new game we will look at the kind of opportunities that exist out there and what we want to develop, and if it could be interesting on console. We should remember that a 360 is just a sophisticated PC."
Last year, [Blizzard COO] Paul Sams told us that there are plans to release a new WOW expansion pack every year. Is that still the case?
Absolutely. We worked really hard on positioning ourselves and creating a team that would allow us to do that, and that's still the goal.
We had to delay The Burning Crusade from late last year to early this year but we felt that was a reasonable delay. We did it for very good reasons - we wanted to bring quality content, and to make sure TBC was ready to be launched as a Blizzard product.

Threat generation is being watched as it compares between warriors and druids. I've said this has been of priority and interest to the devs before and it still is. Group and Raid environments play out differently and this can affect the look of things as far as competition goes. When changes to warriors come down the pipe, there's a good chance the devs will be tweaking threat generation before anything else.
While the gamers in line in California were celebrating the launch with a World of Warcraft-inspired dance-off (as seen in our previous video featurette), The Burning Crusade was already sweeping through Europe. Blizzard developers were on hand at major release events in London, Paris, Berlin, and Stockholm to usher in the expansion together with thousands of European players. View the footage from these events in part two of our Burning Crusade launch video.
My biggest initial gripe, which was the grinding nature of the quests, has been somewhat alleviated with a few pretty interesting quest chains; one being a long one in the Blade's Edge Mountain involving Rexxar - The Champion of the Horde, and another in the Shadowmoon Valley, involving the Burning Legion invasion. Overall, the leveling to 70 has been pretty satisfactory from 65 upwards and looking back in retrospect, I can only be amazed by how much additional content quest-wise, is available in the expansion.
Well, leveling items are almost always go to look more or less "plain". We want the end-game items to really stand out, both in ability/power and the way they look. The items you had at 60 were the end-game items, they were the best of the best and their look really showed that visually just running around the city. As you're leveling again you may be finding better gear than what you had, but it's not the uber end-game gear, and so it sort of has a plain look to match. Once you reach the level cap again then you begin to progress through the sets, and really get a nice and cohesive look with some cool... I don't know, fireworks shooting from your kneecaps, or whatever, and everyone has a BBQ before going to sit on the grass and watch the grand finale exploding from your patella.
Coming soon in a patch near you, we will be disabling the ability to send wrapped packages by C.O.D., which should stem this particular trend we've been seeing lately. Flagging for awareness. Notice the poor spelling and grammar. Take particular notice of the item attached. Anything that is wrapped and sent through the mail sends up red flags for me, I don't know about you folks. Be sure to notify a GM should you receive such an item.
I love player created quests myself and always have. I would love if we could find a way to support such a thing at some point in time but it's not something that is being worked on or is feasible at this point in time.
You run into a lot of problems with player created content when it's being supported by a company like what you suggest. Quality of the quests would have to be heavily moderated and would need to comply very strictly with the lore of the world as well as give rewards that aren't deemed unbalancing. Of course you could always post in the Suggestion forums if you have great quest ideas you'd like to see implemented as well.
Other than something that is hard coded and supported by us, you are more than welcome to create events in game. Player run events can be incredibly fun and rewards can be garnered for the participants in a variety of ways. Many PvP competitions have entry fees and the prize money goes to the top three contestants. Treasure hunts for various random junk items could turn into an item reward. Or it could just be a pure RP event for the fun of vanquishing some enemy or raiding some city.
I would love more players to take on such things and fill the world with a bit of their own personal touches.
There have been a number of reports of set bonuses that are not being applied correctly. We understand this bug, but because there are so many possible combinations of items we need more information before we can fix them all. We are currently in the process of investigating which armour sets are affected by this issue. We are already aware of the issue with the following sets:
Black Dragonscale Defiler's Plate Defiler's Leather Cenarion Rainment + Eye of the Beast Devilsaur Armor Field Marshal/Warlord's Vestment + Netherweave
People are often uninformed of what RP is all about or feel intimidated by it because they feel if they attempt it they will be teased. There is a lot of extremism on both ends of the spectrum. There are those that shun anyone that can't RP well and thus make it so the people that try and don't do well stop trying and never learn to enjoy it and there are those that shun anyone that RPs because they think it's stupid or feel intimidated by it. There are many that wrongly believe that RP = carebear when that isn't true either. PvP and RP can go together very well it's just not something you normally can do well while doing the other simultaneously. Of course there are always macros for that.
There IS a middle-ground however that people don't realize is there. The middle-ground consists of those that enjoy doing it and don't force others to do it too and there are those that respect RP that don't do it but don't harass those that do.
I will RP with people and see how they respond. If they play along, then great. If they don't, it's no skin off my back. I respect that. If they try to push my buttons, I'm more like to go a little toward the extreme for the fun of it to see if I can get a laugh out of them. ;)
Because, while some dungeons may be less accessible to an opposite faction, we don't want to insist that only one faction can run a dungeon. It's about allowing game play and options.
Ragefire Chasm isn't 'Horde Only', even though the likelihood of getting a group of lowbies there is lower.
As for having no graveyard, that is because it is Horde controlled territory and the Alliance shouldn't be afforded a convenience like that in a lower-level zone. Creates too much death-rushing in PvP.
There's not any current intention to allow either on-foot or mounted travel to be increased by items beyond 10% that each type of travel already allows. So regardless of what you have equipped you're not going to get above 10%. The riding crop is really just a one stop replacement so you can clear out some space you might have been using for other speed increases. Hey, there's the bag space solution you've been wanting! Enjoy. ;)
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade was recently featured in an interview with lead designer Tom Chilton. This interview will air February 10 and 11, during the Computer Gaming Invitational on Direct TV. Visit the Championship Gaming Series a site for more information.
While Mia Rose, an up and coming porn starlet who appeared in the second and third episodes of Whorecraft, has been too busy to do any recent episodes, Dez says she will be making a return. In the meantime, another rising star, British porn actress Hannah Harper, is teaming up with Dez to star in his next movie and, perhaps, help him write it. "I've always enjoyed that part of the industry," Harper said. "I've always liked working on the scripts, dressing up, setting up the fantasy. I did theater back in college in England."
We're definitely going to be adding more as we go, and probably sooner rather than later. Of course we'll give you a big shiny page with details when we're ready to announce something.
We also aren't abandoning the battleground system by any stretch of the imagination. We have some pretty cool ideas in the works, but nothing we can discuss just yet. You'll have to be patient. Enjoy Eeyots, the arenas, and we'll talk later.
There are no plans for a level 60 only Battleground at this point. We will however be keeping a close eye on things and make adjustments if we see the need for it.
We are currently in the process of designing and implementing some of the ideas and suggestions made by players to improve the LFG tool so that its current shortcomings will be ironed out.
As of yet we have no specific information about the improvements under development, however the changes being done will make LFG tool much better, and when they have been implemented there should no longer be any need for using the various chat channels when searching for a group or looking for more group members.
