October 8, 2004 - IGN has always been on top of things; that's why we periodically gather a list of the nastiest game-stopping glitches and offer recommendations on how to avoid them. While not everyone is destined to experience the same "bugs", we know how frustrating they can be for the gamers who do face them. Here're some recently reported glitches/bugs to look out for:
Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox)
The Bug: In your September 19th Bug Report someone mentioned a bug for Burnout 3 where the game crashes while playing custom soundtracks.
The Fix: This was happening to me for awhile until I decided to turn the DJ off. So for I haven't had problems with it. It seems the game had trouble intercutting the DJ with the songs on the HD.
Still resets to game soundtrack when I turn it off though. Hope this helps.

ESPN NHL 2K5 (Xbox)
The Bug: Franchise with Injuries "ON". The game will freeze when trying to play the next game on the schedule. CAUSE: You have injured players listed as "Dressed".
The Fix: Remove those players from your line-up by "Scratching" them. Best bet is to start a season with injuries "OFF".
The Bug: Franchise with injuries "OFF". Game will freeze when trying to play the next game in the schedule. CAUSE: CPU Trading is "ON" and CPU is trying to make a trade that would give you less players than needed at a specific position.
The Fix: Turn CPU Trading "OFF" for a few games. This will allow you to move on to the next few games. After a couple games, you can turn CPU Trading back on.

Star Wars Battlefront (Xbox)
The Bug: I have a problem with Star Wars Battlefront for Xbox. When I choose the Quick match option in Multiplayer for Xbox live the dialog box with the timer comes up. After about 12 seconds it disappears and nothing happens, there is just a blue background and I have to reset my Xbox. Anyone experienced something similar?

Fable (Xbox)
The Bug: This glitch gives you unlimited NPC's. It's easy, all you do is choose any quest and "boast" to end up on the pedestal in lookout point with some NPC's cheering you on. Step off the pedestal and use your spade to dig anywhere that it is possible.
More NPC's will be spawned every time you dig. Do it enough and your whole screen will be filled with people. Do not go over 100, because the frame rate will drop drastically and the game will eventually crash. Once you have enough people, you can take out trophies and show them off, gaining huge renown points, or you can kill everyone gaining tons of evil points.

The Bug: Digging Glitch/Free Roam. Put your back up against whatever object you would like to go through. Start digging. Each time your character digs, you will go back one step. Do this the appropriate amount of times it takes to get on the other side of the object. (Fences, Buildings, Rocks, Mountains)
Press and hold your left thumbstick in so your character is in sneak mode. It is possible to take one step at a time using the sneak mode. I found that your character can walk if you go vertical, or horizontal. It will not work if you try to go diagonal on your map. Fiddle around with it and you will see what I mean.

The Bug: In regards to the 2004-Oct-01 bug report issue where Fable will not play in 480p. I am having the same problem with my Samsung TV. Holding the buttons down did not fix it, something I found very interesting is I have 2 Xbox's and my older one plays Fable in 480p just fine where as my bran new Xbox has problems. I was wondering what the deal would be with that?
The Fix: Has anyone been able to play Fable in 480p with an older Xbox? This would be an interesting fix, although I don't think people will want to buy a new/old system just to solve this problem. Reply to the bug report.
The Fight Ring Bug: In reference to Fable and the Fight Ring Bug. I did experience the same bug, but it was initiated differently. During one of the fights in Knothole Glade an assassin came out and began attacking me. My fight heath bar never went away, and I was repeatedly reminded not to leave the circle or take out weapons as the assassin wailed on me with his sword. I finally gave up on the fight and ran out of the circle and left town. I then went back in and defeated the assassin all the while my fight bar remained on screen. After going back to the fight ring and entering the circle I got another fight bar below the previous one.
The Fix: To fix it I just left the area saved and quit and then reloaded, the fight bar went away and I was able to go back to the Knothole Glade ring and fight again.

The Bug: This is in regard to the Fable bug with the fight club at Knothole Glade. I had the same problem. I was told I lost the fight when I had not been touched, and my fight health bar was full and remained on the screen. I tried to just wait and fight again but I was given a second health bar and the first one never disappeared.
The Fix: My fix to it was to save my progress and just reload the game. When I did this the problem disappeared and I was able to continue with my game.

The Bug: Once in awhile, my character will be frozen in place, though I am able to spin around. This has happened to me on 2 separate occasions and I unfortunately do not have a cause. I did find that I could "fix" the problem by either teleporting to the guild or saving the game then loading. Both of these "solutions" will obviously reset whatever quest I may have been in the middle of.
The Fix: Perhaps the dig glitch mentioned above would help to free up your character without teleporting out of the quest. Also, switching between sneaking and walking may nudge your character enough to "unfreeze" the hero.

The Sims 2 (PC)
The Bug: I just got the DVD version of Sims 2 and installed it but when i try to run the game it tells me I need to insert the correct disk.
The Fix: As with any PC game people will have many different compatibility issues. Usually the best place to find help for these problems is on the boards. The Sims 2 has an extremely helpful PC help thread on the IGN boards here.

Beyond Good & Evil (GC)
The Bug: This is regarding a bug listed in the article "Bug Report" (September 19th, 2004), about Beyond Good & Evil, Cube version.
Well, I have noticed that the Wavebird controller is not compatible with the game. I have a couple of normal Cube controllers and I have no problem. But when I try using the Wavebird, it doesn't do anything. You can't move the options, you can't press A. So, it seems that the only solution is playing the game with the normal, wired controllers.
The Fix: This is the first I've heard of a Wavebird compatibility issue with any GameCube game. As a general rule when dealing with peripherals always make sure to check if the batteries are charged and working and the frequency is set correctly.

ESPN NBA 2k5 (Xbox)
The Bug: In ESPN NBA 2K5, I've noticed that sometimes the games stat count gets messed up. Sometimes a player will get blocked, but it credits the player for 5 blocks, instead of 1. The same thing happens for turnovers, a lot of the time a player will end up with 2 turnovers for every one he commits. It makes the game a little annoying when you're leading the league in turnovers because of a glitch. If you know anything about this that'd be great.
The Fix: If anyone knows a fix or a workaround please let us know.

Blinx (Xbox)
The Bug: Fast Stage Finish glitch. As soon as a stage starts, quickly jump back and land on the starting ring. The game will occasionally allow Blinx to treat the start ring as the finish ring.
The Fix: Thanks for the helpful exploit for an incredibly difficult game.
