July 16, 2004 - IGN has always been on top of things; that's why we periodically gather a list of the nastiest game-stopping glitches and offer recommendations on how to avoid them. While not everyone is destined to experience the same "bugs", we know how frustrating they can be for the gamers who do face them. Here're some recently reported glitches/bugs to look out for:

Spider-man 2 (Xbox)

The Bug: After beating Mysterio for the first time your next mission is to talk to Jameson at the bugle. The mission will be available but the game will not advance after this point.

The Fix: Sorry Steve, looks like you are going to have to reset your game and start over. If anyone else has encountered this bug please write in and let me know.

Spider-man 2 (PS2)

The Bug: I noticed three bugs. One when you fall into the water and there no texture. One scene when Peter walks in the daily bugle and he just keeps walking until he hits a door and continues to walk in place. When you fight the shocker and he's on a pillar and after the cut-scene the game freezes.

The Fix: Just skip the scene where Peter keeps walking. Usually the only way to fix a frozen game is to reset it. This isn't necessarily a bug, it may be a dirty disk or lens error. In any case, its another example of why I save my game every three seconds.

The Bug: While attacking a villain use the pattern of attack, jump, and web them toward you to jump higher and higher on the map screen. Eventually Spider-man will blink out of existence and appear back in the water.

The Fix: Do not follow these steps, although I recommend trying this for some laughs.

Thief: Deadly Shadows (PC)

The Bug: In the last museum level, when you replace the final item with a replica they replica will not show up. The guards will not be alerted even though the item is gone. There is a fake heart and crown. There is some sort of glitch in the game that makes it so that if you have the fakes in your possession while stealing the artifacts the guards will not notice they are gone even though it does not actually put the fake item on the pedestal.

The Fix: This doesn't harm the game play, its just nice to know that even though you stole something, the guards will never notice. More loot for you!

Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg (GC)

The Bug: In the first mission of Giant Palace, at the area where there is the pool of dark water and where the switches appear, if your egg is on where a switch is and it appears, your egg will become stuck in the switch.

The Fix: Leave the room and come back in.

Manhunt (PS2)

The Bug: In Manhunt on the Last level against Piggsy (Deliverance), in one of the hiding places that you can go to avoid Piggsy I experienced a bug in which Cash started "falling" out of nowhere...and into nowhere. It seemed as if he went into a bottomless pit and the screen turned pink. It only happened to me once, but it did happen. How do you fix it?

The Fix: Falling through the floor is bug common to Rockstar games (the blue hell of GTA). It usually only occurs in specific places, so if you can remember where it last happened, you can avoid that area. No one in the office has encountered this bug in Manhunt, but I would recommend posting your problem on the Manhunt boards here.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

The Bug: On the mission "The Fastest Boat", the boat garage door is closed. I cannot get in there to lower the fastest boat. Every time I have to destroy the boat so I am able to fail the mission since I cannot complete the mission. Is there any way to get past this glitch?

The Fix: I've never encountered this glitch so it looks like another opportunity to promote the boards. On a popular game like Vice City plenty of people are willing to help you out on the Vice City Board located here.

Die Hard Trilogy (PSX)

The Bug: Infinite Ammo Glitch. When you play the game, you will notice that you run out of ammo very quickly, and unless you have grenades or rockets so that you can kill someone, your pretty much dead. So, when you get another gun, such as the M16, while you killing the bad guys try to keep an eye on how many bullets are left in your clip. When you get down to about two or three shots, use the reload button and you should receive a full clip. You can keep this up again and again, just as long as you don't run the clip dry.

The Fix: No fix, just lots and lots of ammo.
