Last year treated Nintendo pretty well, but it may just be a small sampling of what the Japanese videogame company hopes to accomplish in 2007. Reuters is reporting that this year Nintendo expects its profits to double those from 2006. Last year Nintendo reported a profit of 90.3 billion yen, for 2007 it expects a record operating profit of 185 billion yen. The company expects to have 23 million DS handhelds and 100 million units of DS software sold by March. Wii software sales are expect to increase by 23.5 percent. During a press conference in Osaka, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told Reuters, "One of the reasons for the large upward revision is because DS sales were steady even after the launch of Wii. Also, demand typically shrinks after the Christmas season, but this year, we don't see demand slowing down." It looks like Nintendo is off on a good start in the current console war.
