The talk was true, if you want a Playstation 3 and live in Europe you have to buy the super duper expensive 60GB version:Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced that PLAYSTATION 3 will be launched in the PAL territories including the United Kingdom on 23rd March 2007 at a price of £425.Responding to retail and consumer demand, SCEE confirmed that initially only the 60GB model would be available, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand. An expected one million PS3 units will be made available during the initial launch period to all SCEE territories. SCEE also announced a stellar launch line-up of over 30 game titles for PS3, including eagerly awaited titles published by SCEE such as Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Genji: Days of the Blade, FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION and Ridge Racer 7. An exceptional range of titles in every genre will also be available at launch from the world's leading third party publishers, including Electronic Arts, Activision, Namco Bandai, Sega, Take 2, Ubisoft, Vivendi Universal, and Sony Online Entertainment. In addition to games on disc, an exciting range of fully-featured downloadable gameswill debut on the PLAYSTATION Network. These will include gaming icons such as Tekken: Dark Resurrection and Gran Turismo HD Concept; the fully-featured PS3 debut of the best-selling franchise Gran Turismo, realised with full HD (1080p) visual quality. Created by Polyphony Digital Inc and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, Gran Turismo HD Concept has been downloaded by more than 350,000 users since it was released in December 2006 in North America and Japan. Also available on the PLAYSTATION Network will be brainteasers such as Go! Sudoku and Go! Puzzle, and innovative games such as Blast Factor and flOw, designed exclusively for PLAYSTATION 3 and delivering on the promise to provide original content created by non-traditional developers and publishers. Concurrent with the European launch, a new System Update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued. Announcing the launch details, Ray Maguire, SVP and MD of SCEUK said, "Following the hugely successful launches of PS3 in Japan and North America, we are absolutely delighted to be able to bring significant numbers of PS3 to the UK. To be able to launch with over 30 titles including retail versions and great downloadable gaming experiences across every genre shows that this is our strongest launch line-up in the history of PlayStation, and is what PlayStation fans in the UK have been crying out for." Motorstorm, Formula One and a free taste of Gran Turismo? Yes please!
The price... about the same I paid for a PS2 back in the day.

The PS2 was 299 quid, and quickly fell to 269 within 6 months.

It was like 4500 DKK here in the Faroe Islands(don´t ask me why) which is roughly 450£. I´m just hoping that doesn´t mean it's gonna be like 8000 DKK this time.

"stellar launch titles" Yeah SURE!!! I have had the PS3 since launch and trust me there is still nothing FUCKING STELLAR ABOUT IT. Infact, it's the most expensive paper weight I ever bought. I'm playing my 360 all the time and GT5 and Metal gear are not worth the 600$. What the hell was I thinking when I bought the PS3. I definately had a brain fart at the time. At least it does not make any noise, but that's all!!! My advice to any potential buyers. Wait till the price drops because presently, it's not worth it. Trust me, I'm experiencing it!!!

No it doesn't have Gears of War, but the US PS3 launch was no shittier than the 360 launch was in 2005. Funny how little girls here have selective memory. And whatever idiot buys a game system for two games indeed is experiencing more than a brain fart.
The point is, if you're looking for PS exclusives than you know what you've gotta do. If you're a dumbass and want your PS3 to be an Xbox 360 part 2, then don't buy it.
Now back to reality, how is it you euro cats are getting Motorstorm AND Tekken 5 DR before the US? I'm all for companies releasing relevant software to different territories but the two games I was looking for this winter are everywhere else except here. I guess God of War 2 is gonna have to hold me over. Then again, I haven't finished Final Fantasy XII or Rogue Galaxy or Bully or hell Shadow of The Colossus either. Or either Okami, damn, I guess I'm going to have to dust off my paperweight PS3 and finish some games before the PS3 games start hitting in the spring.
God knows it's gonna be a shitty year to be a PS3 owner!

He didn't actually buy one. His name is 360rulze, you think he's seriously giving a PS3 a chance, especially with just two real titles on the system?
Hate, rant, talk shit all you want. The PS3 will do fine.

Ahem, more like £145 and that's versus the 360 launch price, not the excellent bundles you can get now.

well 2005 was 2005...this is 2007...yes the 360 launch was bad...but it was the only next gen console out so there wasn't really a whole lot to compare it to...now that the 360 has over a year of software titles...and some pretty good ones I might add...there's no excuse for the ps3 to not have the same calibur of titles...resistance and motorstorm are good games...but it's missing that one must have title...that's how the 360 was for me...there were games over the year that I would've liked to play...and eventually I did play them but it took gears of war to make me really want and eventually buy a 360...and since then I've been playing the games that are good games...but not exactly system sellers

Sigh.
You JUST SAID that the 360 has "over a year of software titles", then say that the PS3 should have the same quality lineup at launch?
I weep for the future.

Actually, The PS3 will continue to be at the bottom of the market.. Thier price isnt worth what gammers will get out of it vs's its MUCH CHEAPER competition. The console in terms of market share is horrific and it's demand is no where near the ammount it would require it to even remotely succeed.. Personally.. For gamming purposes.. Xbox 360 will dominate it just because of the price tag and the fact that its game library will remain dominate over the PS3.. As hard has it is to code for the PS3 I doubt you will see any library competition with the XBox.. The more if falls behined the more exclusive ports XBox will score away from the PS3.. I hate to say it..But the PS3 doesnt have enough power under its hood to compete with Nintendo and MS this round.. They priced the Ps3 well out of 95 percent of the market.. Only people buying this thing are the rich or idiotic middle class risking their rent money or morgage payment..
I will give it this.. Its a nice game machine.. very nice.. just not nice enough price wise to make it marketable.. They will loose millions if not a few billion off this machine.. :/ Even when the first round of price cuts come around.. its competition will be so cheap they will be forced to take a hudge loss and cut its price or die..:/

My local EB Games store has plenty of PS3's. The counter guy said he's sold one in the last two weeks. Wii's are still hard to stock and 360 games are strong sellers.
How many of you that bust on 360rulz for his opinion on his PS3, actually own a PS3? I'm pretty sure if his nick wasn't a fanboy nick he wouldn't get the smack down.

i think you're absolutely right about the price. sony just put the ps3 price out of mass market reach. and it doesn't matter anymore what the 360 launch was like. now that all 3 are on the market, prospective buyers are looking at what each system has available now, and the 360 is plainly the superior choice atm.

How can the PS3 be at the bottom of the market when it already had an installed base that is larger than XBox360 in Japan, one of the top 3 largest video game markets in the world?
Unless you're saying the XBox360 is even much worse than at the bottom of the market...
