Final Fantasy Vault is pleased to announce a brand new feature Weekly Adventurer. This new feature showcases members of the community, their characters and other Final Fantasy related content.
Our firt interview is Kdadam from the Final Fantasy Board (IGN). This player has been playing FFXI for a long time and has some very detailed stories about his chracters.
Read our interview with him to learn about his characters, adventures and his excellent photo gallery. If you know someone who you'd like to see featured on Weekly Adventurer please let us know by emailing Sparky[at]vaultnetwork.com
FF Vault: Tell us a little bit about your MMO experience. How did you come across Final Fantasy XI and how long have you been playing?
kdadam: FFXI was my first MMO. I've played Final Fantasy games since FFVII on the first Playstation. Since then, I've played all of the subsequent releases as well as the mighty Final Fantasy Tactics and a number of the older games. When FFXI was announced, I was interested in it, but slightly concerned due to the MMO design. I felt it might be the kind of thing that I would have a hard time playing in moderation. I held off for a long time, but eventually succumbed and decided to give it a shot in August of 2004. I was hooked immediately, although happily my fears were mostly unfounded as I have resisted being consumed wholely. I'm able to play (and even complete) other games on a regular basis while still having fun in Vana'diel.
We've updated our screenshots database with three fresh screenshots thanks to mana_sword. These screenshots can be viewed as previews below. A link to the full resolution images is included at the bottom:

Stories Return![ Comment ] Print News | Mail News | Category: Stories Greetings everyone! I apologize profusely to all your avid story readers that have been denied anything juicy in such a long time. I will do my best to keep that fron happening again. And feel free to give me a friendly kick in the behind if you don't see anything new coming after awhile ^^;
For you patient folks, we have two new updates for you. The first, which has been waiting to be viewed for some time, is the next chapter in Corsage. Here's a snippet of Chapter Nineteen:
Halcyon cast weary glances in all directions before ducking through the door. He put down the bundles hed been holding and shut the door to the windmill. Taking off his sword belt, he laid the weapon hed bought at Selbina a week ago against the wall. He looked around the inside of the windmill, he spotted her. He picked up what hed been carrying and walked over to Ahmela.
Im back, he said. I brought food.
Welcome back, she sent a weak but friendly smile his way. What did you bring?
More sheep meat, he shrugged. He pulled out some raw, bloody meat hed pilfered off the carcass of a sheep an adventure had killed and left to rot. The meat was still fresh, it just needed to be cooked. Summoning arcane fire to his hands, he began roasting the meat and filled the room with the smell of cooked sheep flesh.
How many days has it been? she asked.
Eight days, he said. You were asleep for four of them.
Hmmm, she hummed thoughtfully. Im feeling stronger now.
How strong? he asked. After eight days of Cure spells, he was glad to see they were finally taking effect. Without knowing what he was Curing, he was mostly stabbing around in the dark. He started with what was bleeding and gone from there.
If we dont move too fast, I can travel, she nodded. I think its about time I started walking again.
And the other update for you folks today is none other than Hero of Bastok! No, this is not a hoax; it's really been updated. And what's this? Can it be...Spaces?! It's a shocker! Not so shocking is the fact that the spaces caused the chapter to be broken into two parts <_< Either way, Chapter 31 is up, and here's a preview of The Dark Lord, Part 1:
The air was deathly still, sound a forgotten instrument from those gathered in the dark realm of Dynamis. No one dared to shift their gaze from the two Galka that now stood upon what was to be their battlefield, weapons drawn and at the ready. On one side stood Vyndameer, the hero of Vanadiel, and the warrior of good in this fight. The people of Dynamis did not know who he was, why he was here, and how he looked just like the Dark Lord. Despite all this, he was still a beacon of light to them in these dark times. In him their hopes for an end to the nightmare had come alive, and all wished him victory in this fight. Vyn aimed for victory as well; his worst nightmare, spawned before him in flesh and blood could not be allowed to live. He would not, could not, allow such monstrosity in this world or any other.
Across from him stood the darkness that plagued him in his dreams, the living embodiment of evil, Dark Lord Vyndameer. He reveled in death and torment, seeking amusement from others misery and pain. He had long since turned Dynamis into a world of never ending suffering, and with the power at his disposal none could dare oppose him. That is, until his other self arrived. His tyrannical reign was hoped to be at an end, with his defeat by his own hands, in a sense. But the Dark Lord would see to it that he claimed victory, even if it took every last ounce of power he had. Vanadiel would be his, and not even a version of himself could stop him from doing so.

Columnist TamashiiRyu has posted his latest look at the Kingdoms of Vana D'iel. His latest column titled Kingdoms of Vana D'iel (San D'Oria).
This column is by far his longest and most detailed. If you're a fan of series you can not afford to miss this entry. If you're new to his series we've got the opening paragraphs below.
Click "read more" to read the rest of his article:
Im going to be straight forward with you folks. I really dont like San DOria. I know the kingdom of the Red Lion holds much pride for many of you and in my world, San DOria has fierce conquest competition with Windurst (sorry but Bastok tends to slack off a lot). While you may be thinking well the bloody fool is from Windy; ocourse he aint gonna like Sandy, take into consideration my past experience in San DOria. During the War, my father and I fled Tavnazia to end up in San DOria. That was the last time I saw my father because the king sent him on a suicide mission to the Northlands. Not long after, San DOria was attacked and I was forced to flee again. Even when I returned years later, the castle walls seem to still carry the remaining stink of the war decades ago. The internal conflict between the Royal and Temple Knights creates unnecessary tension among the denizens, which in turn pokes itself in the face of foreign adventurers. I have to say that San DOria is not a pleasant place to be. But my job isnt to scare you away. If I have, then you should reconsider your position as an adventurer. I digress
Since we are just getting off the airship, lets start with Port San DOria. If I forgot to mention, since we are here, every airship port has a duty free shop. I suggest stopping by at least once so you can pick up some otherwise rare items, namely a furnishing item exclusive to each nation. Personally, I like to collect furnishings, as well as make them, just to show where Ive been. Anyway, back to the task at hand.

PlayOnline has announced that FFXI is incompatible with Windows Vista at the current time. You can view the full details below:
We are currently running performance validation of our software with Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM), soon to be released by Microsoft Corporation, using the final release candidate Windows Vista RC2. As of January 2007, we have confirmed that the PlayOnline Viewer and content on PlayOnline fails to function due to the problems listed below.
We are still working with Microsoft Corporation to solve these problems, but since performance validation takes time, we anticipate our support of Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) to start after the official version goes on sale.
To our customers who plan on upgrading Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM) we apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely ask for your understanding.
Software Affected
PlayOnline Viewer
Content supported by PlayOnline (FINAL FANTASY XI)
- The install menu doesn't activate.
Even when the install disk is present in the disk drive, the application named "Install Menu" to select which program to install does not start. Instead, the PlayOnline Viewer installation begins.
- The PlayOnline Viewer doesn't start.
Sometimes, after installing the PlayOnline Viewer, the application fails to launch, and the message "PlayOnline Viewer cannot run under current operating system" appears.
Since the PlayOnline Viewer does not launch, FINAL FANTASY XI becomes unplayable.
Even when the PlayOnline Viewer does launch, we cannot guarantee its further operation.
Similar problems occur once PCs that we have previously confirmed are upgraded to Microsoft(R) Windows Vista(TM).
