January 10, 2007 - The w300i Walkman phone is a solid step up from the entry level w200i, offering extra features such as Bluetooth and a desirable clamshell design. Even though first glance may have you assuming this is still a relatively no-frills handset, the w300i includes features such as FM tuner, but it's unfortunate that the onboard camera is a measly VGA. Ugh. If you are just going to offer VGA, just take the camera out and reduce the price.

We checked out the w300i at CES today, trying out its basic features, such as music playback via the Walkman interface -- which is simple enough to use, but still lacks any elegance. Perhaps the next round of handsets, Sony? The handset does support 3D gaming, though, and that's always considered a plus at IGN Wireless.

The stout clamshell design feels sturdy and its width will take up a little extra real estate in your bag. But for those not into slim-line phones (and that's, what, three of you?) or in search of an earnest media playback handset, the w300i could be a contender for your attention.
