Rainbow Six Vegas - Review Roundup

Posted at 11:49 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News

I have not had the chance to play the game yet, but from my friends, and the reviews, the game sounds like a REAL winner. Here are a few reviews for Vegas. All of them are very positive. First of all, we have the IGN review.
For a while, it looked as if Rainbow Six was in danger of losing its identity, thanks to screaming message boards proclaiming, "It's too hard," "It's too slow," and "I want an energy sword." The result was 2005's Rainbow Six Lockdown, a run-and-gun arcade game take that would make Tom Clancy blush. With Ubisoft Montreal back at the helm, Rainbow has been reined in to pay homage to its roots -- squad-based combat with a healthy dose of slow and deliberate room-clearing tactics. At the same time, Vegas has been infused with some new, more mainstream elements like a regenerating health system, streamlined controls and open, sprawling environments. The result is the most accessible and among the most satisfying Rainbow Six titles yet -- a treat for former Delta Force operatives and acne-ridden Halo gamers alike. If only there were more strippers.
Next up, we have a review from Gamespot.
It's pretty easy to imagine that plenty of eyes rolled when Ubisoft revealed that the next game in the Rainbow Six franchise was going to be set in Las Vegas. It sounded like a move that only the creatively bankrupt would undertake, and the Rainbow franchise is certainly getting up there in terms of years. It also seemed kind of fitting, since Vegas is where all the washed up entertainers eventually wind up. Well, any such notions are a big mistake, because this new Rainbow Six is like the new Las Vegas. It's refreshed, reinvented, and ready to take on the world, and it's also one of the best tactical shooters on the Xbox 360 to date.
Finally we have the 1UP review.
Many of us got our first glimpse of what Xbox Live was really all about three years ago, thanks to Rainbow Six 3, and as a result the franchise has been afforded considerable latitude for its subsequent missteps. Thankfully, Rainbow Six Vegas shows an admirable return to form, and while essentially little more than a slight evolution of the franchise's core ideas, it should secure its position in the series' legacy as a firm favorite.
All of the scores are very positive. Look around, and check them out!

Vegas: Get your face into the game

Posted at 13:36 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News

Penny-Arcade has information on getting a good picture taken, to be put in the game.

Along those lines, there is a mini-review, and information on getting a good shot of you over on Neowin.net.

    TeamXbox review of Vegas

Posted at 13:33 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News

Team Xbox has a review of Rainbow Six Vegas up. Team Xbox seems to like the game.
As the first next-gen entry in the franchise that many consider to be the crown jewel in Tom Clancy's video game empire, Rainbow Six: Vegas has some awfully high expectations to live up to. The development team at Ubisoft Montreal surely knew that every screenshot and video they released would be heavily scrutinized by the longtime fans who were eager to wash the foul taste of the disappointing Rainbow Six: Lockdown out of their collective mouth. The game also faces stiff competition from the other next-gen Clancy titles, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Splinter Cell Double Agent. We're happy to say that while Vegas isn't without its issues, this is the game that fans have been waiting for ever since the stellar Rainbow Six 3 took the Xbox world by storm over 3 years ago.
    Some great news, there.

    Double Agent review on Actiontrip

Posted at 12:07 PST by Rifter | Splinter Cell News

Actiontrip has posted their review of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Head over to their site, and check it out. This is the review, for the PC version.
What I have found remarkable about the Splinter Cell franchise over the years is that Ubisoft has somehow managed to create the next-gen buzz around each new release, like every new Splinter Cell game was going to deliver something new in terms of technology or gameplay (Sounds like the marketing team deserves a healthy bonus -Mo).

    Pro-G Rainbow Six Vegas preview

Posted at 7:54 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News

More sites have gotten their hands on Rainbow Six Vegas, and have written up articles about what they saw. Here is the latest from Pro-G.
The cover system used in Vegas is simply superb, and is key to how the game plays. By holding the left trigger on the 360 controller your character will take cover behind the nearest wall or other object that's big enough to hide behind. In this position the view will switch to third-person and you have a variety of options at your disposal. If you're really being pinned down you can fire blindly around the corner, but peeking out and getting in an aimed shot is also possible, either to the side or above the object you're behind. If you're at the far edge of an object you can aim practically all around you, and grenades can be tossed out if you need to tackle a group of enemies.
