March 11, 2005 - IGN has always been on top of things; that's why we periodically gather a list of the nastiest game-stopping glitches and offer recommendations on how to avoid them. While not everyone is destined to experience the same "bugs", we know how frustrating they can be for the gamers who do face them. Here're some recently reported glitches/bugs to look out for:

Gran Turismo 4
Platform: PS2

Bug/Glitch: Horsepower discrepancy.

Fix/Solution: This might have been submitted already, but in the last bug on the report about the horsepower discrepency, it's usually because the car needs an oil change to get the max performance. None of the used cars will show as the hp you bought them for until you do that.

Bug/Glitch: Horsepower discrepancy.

Fix/Solution: The bug about GT4 with the horsepower being shown and after you buy the car different. Those Hp numbers are reflected as if the motor and the car's oil are fresh I have noticed that in most cases the Hp differances in the game come from the used cars(there oil is mostly dirty and there can be some small Hp differeances) changing the oil seem to bring the HP numbers back upto there orignal HP numbers or close to it. I have only bought a few new cars and didnt really check it out but I do know that seems to be the case with used cars.

Bug/Glitch: Horsepower discrepancy.

Fix/Solution: I have an explanation for a bug regarding Gran Turismo 4, featured in the Bug Report for February 25, 2005. In the article, the bug is stated as follows: This isn't a bug at all. This is what Polyphony Digital had planned. The number shown in the list is the absolute maximum power that the car can produce (SAE net). As seen in many real-life cars, the horsepower a car has in SAE net and what it will actually produce are two different numbers. The discrepancy comes from the estimate of the car's current power based on mileage and oil status. In all other screens, the actual power of the car at that moment in time is displayed.

Bug/Glitch: Horsepower discrepancy.

Fix/Solution: In your Bug Report for 2005-Feb-25 you mention the discrepancy in horsepower between the garage and car details screens. I'm fairly certain that this was intentional by Polyphony. The horsepower figure in the garage is the manufacturer's claimed horsepower rating, and the number in the details screen is the observed horsepower during car testing. This was done, in all probability, to add yet another touch of realism.

Bug/Glitch: This particular bit of weirdness happened after completing the lightweight series of races in beginners events. The car you receive is the Gennetti (or something). I immediately went to play with the car in practice mode. Upon selecting A-spec mode the race began, but the B-spec HUD was on the screen and the camera acted as though I was in B-spec. Nothing was controlling the car, it rolled forward until it reached a hill, and then rolled backwards. Every race I tried had the same result, even when competing. I turned of my PS2 and upon restart everything was fine.

Fix/Solution: Possible system hiccup. Restart/reload seems to have an effect.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW
Platform: PS2

Bug/Glitch: Hello! I've encountered a problem when playing WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW. As I was having a match with Chris Jericho by playing Batista in the Season Mode, at the end of the match-up (I thought) I was going to defeat Y2J (his head and body were bright red). When I got Jericho out of the ring onto the floor, my game stuck. Not just stuck, but frozen. Also, my controller was vibrating furiously. I had no way of getting out of that situation, except for qutting the game. The same problem occurred to me a few days after. And because I couldn't save the game from the locker room, nor from the pause menu, I almost lost all my progress. Thank you for taking time to read this.

Fix/Solution: None provided.

Playboy The Mansion
Platform: PS2

Bug/Glitch: Deleting Hef's essay in mission 4, irreversibly bugs the game and deletes prompts for future missions.

Fix/Solution: Do not delete the essay; otherwise reload/restart the game if player commits to bug.

Bug/Glitch: Opting not to save immediately after clearing mission 12 but saving later (presumably in mission 13) produces an irreversible glitch that prevents Billie Cross from appearing to fulfill an objective later.

Fix/Solution: Save when prompted to do so after mission 12. Reload/restart the game after encountering this glitch.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2
Platform: Xbox

Bug/Glitch: Glitch reported in the 2005 February 11 Bug Report.

Fix/Solution: The KoTOR glitch I have heard about before on Xbox forums. While I havent experienced the glitch myself I hear it happens when people used a CD image on a Modded Xbox. If the PC version follows the same glitch, I would assume that using a CD image or a No-CD hack/patch would lead to this problem and so avoiding those would likelly solve the problem.

Bug/Glitch: Glitch reported in the 2005 February 11 Bug Report.

Fix/Solution: This is for KOTOR 2. I just noticed today that you guys had put a post in from someone about KOTOR 2 not working. this has long been an outstanding problem right from release of the game. If you check out the Obsidian forum, there are dozens of posts of people with glitches where the game hangs up, areas that do not trigger properly, thus making them unpassable... also one I ran into was a huge clipping problem on Telos, where my team managed to run through a clipping zone near a building and I didnt know and when I switched to them, my last free remaining member than also ran into the clipping zone, succesfully getting my entire team stuck. Anyways, this is not new literature. I would really suggest checking out the Obsidian forums, because it may make a good article.

ESPN College Basketball
Platform: Not specified (PS2, Xbox)

Bug/Glitch: ESPN College Basketball, on numerous occassions now, has frozen during the simulation mode and cant get past certain points on the schedule. It will go through computer recruiting and just freeze. I'm with my third team now, still trying to go from start to finish with a low end school and it's pretty frustrating.

Fix/Solution: None provided. Possible cleaning of system needed. Customer and technical support contact are available at Sony Support and Microsoft's Xbox page.

Prince of Persia The Warrior Within
Platform: Not specified (PS2, Xbox, PC, Cube)

Bug/Glitch: Lip sync glitch. Sound does not match subtitles or subtitles do not match sound.

Fix/Solution: I have dealt with the lip glitch. I know how to beat it. I turn the subtitles off while I'm playing because they get annoying. So, I ran into the lip glitch twice. One when I got the lion sword, and the other time when I got the serpent sword. The key to beating this is to turn the titles on. Do not turn the subtitles on at the first screen with the New Game and Load Game Screen, because it doesn't do anything. You have to do it while you are playing. Go to the start screen, options, subtitles, and change it to on. And Tada!
