January 7, 2005 - IGN has always been on top of things; that's why we periodically gather a list of the nastiest game-stopping glitches and offer recommendations on how to avoid them. While not everyone is destined to experience the same "bugs", we know how frustrating they can be for the gamers who do face them. Here're some recently reported glitches/bugs to look out for:

Metroid Prime 2 Echoes (GC)

The Bug: I found a bug in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. I found it after I got the Light Suit, but I think only the Screw Attack is needed for it to "work". In the Light World in Torvus Bog in the Hydrodynamo Station (it's below the Torvus Temple) I saved in the save station there and headed for the elevator to the Torvus Temple. Just after I got out of the save station room I did a screw attack to the central platform. Instead of landing I fell through the hole that's in the middle of the platform. That hole is supposed to be there as it is the only way to return to the surface before getting a certain upgrade. But, after getting that upgrade and solving the puzzle of the room the hole became unusable so I got stuck. I had to reboot my system to load from the last save. Thank you very much.

The Bug: I found myself stuck in a glitch in Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. When you reach Main Research with echo visor, you have to activate 3 sound wave emitters to open a gate that lead to a portal. If, like I did, you activate one or two of them then leave the area, you are unable to reactive them afterward. It's really frustrating because at that point, I have collect 71% Items and I'm forced to restart from the beginning because this glitch is on my saved file! If you manage to find any other way to solve this, please respond, please publish it! Thanks!

Halo 2 (Xbox)

The Bug: In the mission "The Arbiter" when you first get on the banshees to protect your ship if you get off the banshee while your flying up your character will keep flying up until he reaches the top of the screen or area and he will stay there.

The Fix: I had to restart the level.

Fable (Xbox)

The Bug: I was at Bowerstone Quay, beating up a fist fighter to get some strength experience points. When I stopped targeting him my camera began spinning. When I hold the left trigger it's not spinning but when I release it, it starts again.

Fire Emblem (GBA)

This is in response to the 2004-Dec-31 bug report. I don't think this is a bug. The design of this level causes your land based characters to get trapped if you aren't careful. The "fix" is to have a flying character or one who can walk through water (pirate) and rescue the character.

And…

The Fire Emblem bug in the 2004-Dec-10 report submitted by firefan is not a bug at all. It's just a hazard of the level. When a bridge disappears, they do fall into the water, but they can be picked up by flying units. That's why they can walk out when they're next to a platform, they just take a step. But if they're farther out, they can't walk. It's honestly not a bug, it's a hazard.

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW (PS2)

Bug correction: : The "skull mask" bug listen in the 12/10 Bug Report doesn't work. There doesn't seem to be any way to actually make that happen.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (PS2, Xbox, GC, PC)

The Bug: I know of another likely, but possibly rare bug. When fighting the giant boss where you can climb on his back, he walked into a corner which was sort of an enclosed space where he became trapped between the walls, continually walking in place. He doesn't attack, which may sound like a happy bug, but you can't hit him either.

The Bug: After I defeat the empress for the first time, I was sent to the beach. I checked the map and it said "Beach (past)". The mission is to leave the island. But you are really in the present. This is another variation of the glitch in your article.

TimeSplitters 2 (PS2)

The Bug: On the multiplayer map Ufopia, you can enter a strange glitch world. To do this go to the top of the level where you can see into a big room where there are 3 UFO's. You can jump onto the ufo's, once you are on them. Go to the third one. Point yourself at the door next to the ufo, look up, but not as high as you can look up, and run towards the door. If done correctly, you have just entered what I call the "void". This may take a couple tries to get right.

ATV Offroad Fury (PS2)

The Bug: Every so often my game freezes on the load screen before the race. The screen just goes black when the track preview is supposed to come out. The majority of the time it happens right before and outdoors race, now it freezes every time I try a championship on expert difficulty.

The Fix: As with most game freeze problems, the first thing to do is check to make sure that it isn't a hardware problem. Check to see if there are freezing errors when playing other games. If so, the first culprit is the laser lens and the machine may need a professional checkup. A lot of hardware information can be found on our FAQs site in the hardware section located here.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (PS2)

The Bug: The game did not recognize my Dual Shock2 controller, so I bought another one because that was giving me problems before; but the new one did the same thing. After a while of unplugging and turning off the console with or without controllers or memory card, I found out that the game does not like the receiver for the Sony remote controller that I had in port 2.

The Fix: Just take out the remote receiver before the game loads up and you're in business.

Jak II (PS2)

The Bug: In Jak II, I am about 95% far into the game. After protecting Sig in the Under Port, I have to go and talk to Keira. When I get to the stadium, she is nowhere to be found. Also, why is the city on constant alert status? I know the metal heads are roaming the city, is that the reason I can't talk to Keira? I don't know, IGN help me out.

Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS2)

The Bug: This bug happened on Level 7, the snow level with cabins and Bison. Specifically, the laser mission room where the safe is located. I completed the level 95%, went into level 8, played a minute or two, and then went back into level 7 to find the last 3 or 4 clue bottles. I found them, went into the cabin, opened the safe, came out and was presented with the warning sign coming out saying if I went back in I would cancel my mission. The level "warped" back to the placing mirrors to focus the laser. I left the level and came back and it was only 38% complete now instead of the expected 100%.

Another glitch was falling off a ledge as Bentley into an infinite fall in one of the mausoleums. This happened when collecting bad mojo in the room with the water where pressing the lever burned the guys on the sides, or dropped the ledge in the middle.

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (PSX)

The Bug: Swim Without Water. This is actually a cross between a cheat and a bug, but it's pretty cool! To use this, go to Breeze Harbor. Go to the pool and light the fire if it's not already lit. Jump in the water (but don't dive) and swim to the steps by the fire. The top one should be just barely over water. Swim to the edge of the step and dive. You won't go into the pool, but you'll be able to swim. (If you went in the pool, get closer to the step. You'll have to go right to where it goes into the water.) You can now swim over the level and get to places in less time! To exit, swim in the pool, get on the trolley, or get on a cannon.
