Picture of the Day: Run, little key, run! Submitted by TechPro
Archive | Submit | | Soupe Du Jour: Forget-Me-Not Soupes | Some days I just forget there's a Soupe to write. I don't really know what to blame it on other than sheer forgetfulness. Bring out the pitchforks, avast this scoundrel for neglecting the Soupe! Maybe I should start copying myself on a memo to write the Soupe on my appointed days. Should write it on the back of my palm so I don't forget. Either that or I need a Post-It on my computer at all times that says in a large font "SOUPE! FTW!" With luck maybe I'll get more consistent with the Soupe instead of slacking. Gotta pick the pace back up right? --Asrale View Comments |

 | | | | | | Basewars Released! 11:49 PM PST | Descent 3 | Top Gun Big news on the D3 front: Hunter has just released his Basewars mod project, a concept which goes above and beyond his previous Hyperspace levels. Rather than try to inadequately summarize it, I'll just let Hunter speak for himself:
"Hyperspace: Standoff was built around an idea of a simple CTF level in space. It then took the form of Assault, as did the hit followup Hyperspace Divided. Once the final level Apotheosis came along, I decided to fine tune things a little more - Which resulted in a more balanced level for both Assault and CTF. After Apotheosis, I never thought I'd do another level - Hyperspace was intended to be a three-level set only, and no more. But then in late 2004 after just finishing Apotheosis - I had this idea to create something beyond any of the previous levels. It took many months of convincing myself that it was possible, and many months more after that before I started working on it. If you've never played the Hyperspace series, then you're going to love this level all the more.
Basewars is something of a spinoff, while it uses many of the ideas, content and weapons from the first three levels - it presents it in a whole new way. I had a lot of fun thinking up the ideas for this level, and transporting ideas from other games into it. Basewars is inspired by other games - Namely EVE, Freespace and Freelancer. Even down to the rough designs of some ships. But despite having some visual similarity, it's an entirely different game. Even the Atmosphere is unlike anything seen before in Descent 3. If it's a good or bad thing, I'm no sure yet. I made this purely for the fans of Hyperspace, and because Descent 3 could use something like this every so often. I'd like to say, that it's been a fun ride, but after Basewars, I'll be leaving the Descent modding scene. I do have one more project in the pipeline, which is essentially a single player version of Basewars - Assuming all goes well, it could be released in the New Year. Check the website often for updates, and do come join us! Sectorgame is not just a gaming website, it's a community - albeit small - of friends from all walks of life."
Be sure to grab the level on this page; if you'd like, you can also see a trailer of Basewars in action here. Many thanks to Hunter for all of his hard work on this project!

| | | | | | | | | PSA - News Submissions 10:01 AM PST | PlanetDescent | Asrale A PSA on the subject of the News Submit form. If you would like to submit news and want to ensure that it is read (at least by the regularly-active staff members we now have), please e-mail your submission directly to any staff member instead of using the form on the site, and put in an appropriate subject line. Our e-mail addresses should be listed in our pilot profiles.
Requesting this change only temporarily as I personally have been receiving spam from bots that are exploiting the form, and just a few days ago the rate increased to ~50 spam mails a day (can't speak for the other staffers). I have been deleting ALL messages with the subject of "News for PlanetDescent!" on sight (without previewing them) for a while now, so if you recently sent a news submission, please send it again, and directly to a staff member with a subject line that is NOT "News for PlanetDescent!"

| | | | | | | | | PD is 8! 2:28 AM PST | PlanetDescent | Asrale That's right folks, the site serving up info on your favorite games is now 8 years old! PD went live on October 8, 1998, way before things like MySpace, blogs - hell, even before MP3 files became popular. We've been around an eternity in Internet time. Kudos to ourselves and the staff that have come before!
| | | | | | | | | Do_LAN_6 in germany a great success 2:17 AM PST | Events | Marix Yesterday the Do_LAN_6 ended after 5 days. About 43 pilots attended this LAN showing that Descent still is a great game with a great community.
| | | | | | | | | Do_LAN_6 in germany - two weeks left 6:32 PM PST | Events | Do_Checkor Since the famous german yearly Descent LAN "Do_LAN_6" is less than two weeks ahead, the time is runing out for a chance to sign up... Check out the LAN website for further infos (details about conditions will be added in a few days), which is available in german AND english...
