Pro-G Rainbow Six Vegas preview

More sites have gotten their hands on Rainbow Six Vegas, and have written up articles about what they saw. Here is the latest from Pro-G.
The cover system used in Vegas is simply superb, and is key to how the game plays. By holding the left trigger on the 360 controller your character will take cover behind the nearest wall or other object that's big enough to hide behind. In this position the view will switch to third-person and you have a variety of options at your disposal. If you're really being pinned down you can fire blindly around the corner, but peeking out and getting in an aimed shot is also possible, either to the side or above the object you're behind. If you're at the far edge of an object you can aim practically all around you, and grenades can be tossed out if you need to tackle a group of enemies.

Gamehelper has been able to check out Rainbow Six: Vegas and give us a preview of the game. You can check out the article, here.
Tom Clancys Rainbow Six: Vegas took its locale and recreated it to such fine detail that youll find yourself stealing glimpses of the scenery while taking cover. The Strip is a thing of bright lights and gaudiness at its finest, but the throngs of people that so often plague its tainted streets are absent, leaving behind only the remnants of their mangled cars to remind us that they were there in the first place. This lends a haunted feeling to the seething glitz. The city is alive even in its silence.

In case you didn't have a friend over from Wales to allow you to download the latest demo for Rainbow Six Vegas, it is now up for download in the US. I am guessing it can be downloaded in Canada and Mexico, as well.
TVG Gets hands on with Vegas

TVG also had the opportunity to get some hands-on time with Rainbow Six Vegas. You can head over, and check out their first impression of the game.
Ubisoft is certainly promising a lot of things for Vegas as we said at the start, including a return to the slower paced build up of action that trademarked the earlier entries of the series. Two key elements shape their intentions: an emphasis on players to use OPA strategies so that enemy takedowns can be as risk-free for Logan and his men, and the new 'Tag' system, allowing gamers to prioritise which enemies his AI-controlled team should takedown first. So far it seems that the new team-members AI have got a handle on Tagging; it was a rare occurrence for them not to kill their marks within the first second or two of the 'Go' command being given. In practice, the OPA tactics pretty much boils down to using the virtual floor plan of the building, using the new Snake Cam to look under doors and observe the activities in the next room, before tagging enemies and launching the actual assault.
Bit-Tech Vegas preview

Bit-Tech has a Rainbow Six Vegas preview up this morning.
The other cool trick I noticed when playing was the effect grenades have, especially in multiplayer more about that on the next page. There are a variety of grenades; the traditional bang bang frag grenades, flashbangs, smoke grenades and, my favourite, the tear gas grenades. The flashbang will leave you both deaf and blind in a very realistic manner whilst the tear gas lets off hazy green smog, which leaves you blinded by a cool blurred effect on your screen. Although I didnt get a chance to experiment with all the gadgets in the game my assumption is that they will live up to the usual Tom Clancy high standards.

Boomtown has a really good Rainbow Six Vegas preview up and running. One of the cooler snippets from the article, was posted on Evil Avatar. It discusses how the writer had his face mapped onto a model in the game. This sounds like a very cool feature, and I hope more game makers are taking notice.
Take one front face snapshot and one from the side and within minutes your very own boat-race will be present in the game. It's striking and more than a little spooky. There's something rather creepy about seeing yourself lying in a pool of your own blood. It's a fantastic feature though, both technically and gameplay wise. This isn't just a case of mapping a texture over a predefined head, the game actually builds an Unreal Engine 3 3D mesh based on the two photos. And once in the game you can add further features to your face such as camo paint and scars.
If you like tactical shooters, this is a GOOD time to be a gamer. Rainbow Six, Gears of War... not to mention Splinter Cell: Double Agent and GRAW still going strong.
