Bit-Tech has an interesting article about an upcoming major upgrade to the Source engine. The Source engine was developed with modularity in mind so that new technologies can be implemented rather easily. The next big upgrade will take advantage of multi-core processors, a rather new advancement in personal computing.
The article goes into detail about practical applications other than performance gains. There are a few videos and slides from a presentation given by Valve that really show off the potential of this upgrade, such as interactive particle systems. Expect the multi-threading update to the Source engine to come out before Half-Life 2: Episode Two, which is scheduled to be released at the beginning of next year.

Natural Selection 2 and Other Tidbits��

Unknown Worlds, better known as the team behind Natural Selection, has officially announced its plans for Natural Selection 2. Players can expect to see dynamic environments, a new resource model, new gameplay modes coupled with a scripting system, and more. Natural Selection 2 will be a stand-alone commercial game and will be released on Steam.
As with the first Natural Selection release, the development team is working to develop a technology release for the sequel so that level designers can get a head start on creating custom maps.
In addition, Natural Selection v3.2 has been released to constellation members. It should not be long before it is available to the general public.

Halo 3 details on IGN��

Yes, this is information from the magazines that some of you may already have been able to read but I suppose that some of you have yet to get a copy in your hands. IGN has summed up the new information in a recent article. You can read about the three different editions the game will be released in (ordinary, limited and legendary, with a SPARTAN helmet replica included). There is also information abnout new weapons, vehicles and some of the new multiplayer maps that we will get our hands on. Read the article for more of it. Tomorrow will also be the release date for LEVEL, the Swedish magazine, in stores so I will get a copy and post some information as well.
