November 3, 2006 - On January 23, 2007, the Criterion Collection will release Yojimbo and Sanjuro on DVD. The samurai classics are helmed by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, and will feature tons of bonus materials and extra features. They will be available individually for the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) of $39.95, or together for $69.95.
The Yojimbo DVD will feature the following bonus materials:
- Audio commentary by film historian and Kurosawa scholar Stephen Prince
- A 45-minute documentary on the making of Yojimbo, created as part of the Toho Masterworks series Akira Kurosawa: It Is Wonderful to Create
- Theatrical trailer and teaser
- Stills gallery of behind-the-scenes photos
- New and improved English subtitle translation
The Sanjuro DVD will feature the following bonus materials:
- Audio commentary by film historian and Kurosawa scholar Stephen Prince
- A 35-minute documentary on the making of Sanjuro, created as part of the Toho Masterworks series Akira Kurosawa: It Is Wonderful to Create
- Theatrical trailer and teaser
- Stills gallery of behind-the-scenes photos
- New and improved English subtitle translation
- A booklet featuring an essay by critic Michael Sragow and notes and statements from Kurosawa and his cast and crew
