Grand Theft Auto IV Rumors 13:08 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News Some rumors have surfaced today on several gaming websites regarding Grand Theft Auto IV. Some sources claim that there will be exclusive additional content for the Sony PlayStation 3 version. As of this past May, Microsoft officially confirmed exclusive additional content for the XBOX 360 version. These new claims of additional content for the PS3 are unconfirmed.
Imagine this scenario: Rockstar Games doesn't want to upset Sony anymore with all of the GTA IV-related Microsoft announcements, and they realize that the PS3 is coming out very soon. They decide they want to leak the news that the PS3 version of GTA IV will also have additional content. The way they do this is not leak it themselves, but rather give the information to top Sony officials who then find a way to leak it themselves. This might have happened, but is only speculation on my part. The article claims that the information came from a Rockstar North source. That seems very unlikely to me.
The rumors say the following:
We're told to expect much the same deal on PS3, except unique to the platform. Interestingly, the downloadable content, our source maintains, will take the form of brand new areas which will link into the main GTA IV game world.
"Think of the world as a large island - the new downloadable areas will be like smaller islands linking into it," the source explained. (Which is a structural analogy, rather than a suggestion that the game is set on an island, we hasten to add.)
It is very interesting nonetheless. What do you think? Tell us!
Bully Reviewed by IGN 13:04 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News I realize that this is a GTA website and not a Rockstar Games site, but when a game like Bully uses an engine from the GTA games and has a free-roaming aspect in a town with cars and police and such, it's hard not to say something.
IGN reviewed Bully and gave it an 8.9/10 saying the following:
9.5 for Presentation - Rockstar has put together one of the best stories of the year, which works because of great characters and a biting sense of sarcastic humor that you won't find elsewhere. Load times are nice too!
8.5 for Graphics - Bully has a terrific artistic style that we'd love to see again and boasts a nice mix of detail, size, and activity. Expect camera hitches in narrow or tight spaces.
9.0 for Sound - Shawn Lee's playful soundtrack compliments Bully's storyline and atmosphere perfectly. Exceptional voice acting and almost 40,000 lines of dialogue strengthen the audio even further.
8.5 for Gameplay - Bully's mix of combat and exploration is highlighted by a surplus of fun and differing mini-games. Its cool boss fights and fighting engine overshadow sometimes repetitious design and occasional bugs.
9.0 for Lasting Appeal - Like most Rockstar games, there's a ton to do in Bully whether you just started or have been playing for 40+ hours. Expect plenty of welcome distractions at just about every moment.
The game hits shelves starting tonight in some stores, but for the majority, you will have to wait until tomorrow.
Lazlow to Reveal VCS Audio? 11:11 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News The radio personality known as Lazlow that has done voice work for four GTA games might be revealing some audio from the new game tomorrow on a radio show. Here's the news from Zero:
Lazlow is scheduled to be on the Opie & Anthony radio show tomorrow (Tuesday) morning and has promised to bring in audio from Bully, made by O&A; staff. During the time he called into the show on Friday, it was revealed that Opie, Anthony, and at least one other staff member have contributed voice roles to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. Lazlow also threatened to bring in audio of an O&A; staff member from VCS--the staff member voicing the role of a "gay jogger." There's a very strong chance the first audio from VCS will be revealed tomorrow on their show. I have no idea if he's scheduled for the FM/XM portion of the show, or the XM satellite radio exclusive portion of the show.
If you have the radio service, do your best to record his portion and I'll host a partial clip of it on the website!

Bully Evades Jack 20:45 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News Jack Thompson wanted Rockstar Games to lose this week. Thompson once said he is out to destroy the GTA developer. Today though, the concentration wasn't on the franchise we all love. Today, he wanted to hinder the sales of Bully which gets released on October 17...next Tuesday. He sat in the courtroom today with fellow lawyers and media. Then, the security guard said "all rise for the honorable Judge Friedman!" The judge goes through some statements but then says the following:
"I have decided that there will be no rulings here today, nor do I see the necessity to prevent the sale of this game."
Niero, a correspondent at the gaming website Destructoid was sitting in the courtroom to bring the world the news. Here is what happened immediately following the ruling according to Niero:
"Jacks face is always a shade of red, but it is visibly more flushed than before. He presents his hands forward on the table as if to stand up, but he does not. The judge speaks.
Judge: 'I have spent a couple of hours viewing the game. It was produced to me by an operator using a cheat, which allowed him to skip through the game and show me 'key points' that would require an average gamer hundreds of hours to reach. There is a LOT of violence, but not more than the general public has access to on television. Im not going to let the cat out of the bag about the game content. Mr. Thompson was present, and they gave a copy to the BBC...' and began to speak about this games media coverage a little bit. I lost interest and looked at Jack. He was bubbling with a word at the tip of his tounge, waiting to interject.
Judge: 'As I said, there is a lot less violence in this game than what we see on television, and although it is pervasive, but not to the extent that it would cause a public threat that would require me to prevent these folks from selling it.'
I look at Jack. Hes not sitting down anymore, but isnt standing up either.
Judge: 'Would I want my kids to play this game?' His palm is open like a starfish on his chest. 'Absolutely not. But this game is not a nuisance.'
Jack lunges forward and machineguns a request for a TRO (temporary restraining order). They speak quickly and throw legal procedures back and forth like a game of Simon Says. Jack grills the judge for taking a stand and making an opinion on the game, very calmly stating 'but judge, this is not a trial' over and over, as apparently what the judge is requesting does not follow some kind of basic procedure.
Infuriated, the judge screams and demands Jack sits down.
New Vice City Stories Features Announced 11:16 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News GamesRadar's new preview has new screenshots and details on the upcoming Halloween release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. For some reason (I guess to save money on bandwidth?), GamesRadar decided to highly compress the new screenshots, and they look so bad that any Adobe Photoshop nerd would have to believe that when GR compressed to JPEG, they must have chosen lower than a 4 on the 1-12 quality scale.
Anyway, new features include beach patrol which allows you to save lives of people drowning in the water. Of course, you can save and assure them that they are ok and then turn right around and shoot them in the head. Don't you love Grand Theft Auto? Check out the full preview.
"Vice City Stories may be the best PSP game we've ever played so far. It's got everything a GTA should have and more - and it's portable. All the upgrades make it leaps and bounds better than Liberty City Stories. If you have a PSP, you musst buy this game; if you don't have a PSP, get one just to play this game.
Some bulleted details:
sub 15 hour story mode
better hollywood voice acting than LCS with Gary Busey, Danny Trejo, Luis Guzman, etc...
more multiplayer modes
new vehicles
less zealous cops
Technical glitches include the following:
graphical glitches like long-armed motorcyclists carried over from LCS
target lock and AI issues where you might find yourself targeting civilians all the time
bad guys get stuck running into walls and allies move into your line of fire which leads to mission failure
Stay tuned for more, and thanks to snatches and Medalion Man!

Want To Be PlanetGTA Staff? 14:50 PST | Jordan | Print News | Mail News Want to be on the inside track of all of the GTA news? Want to meet other webmasters of other popular websites of the franchise? Well, positions are now available on the PlanetGTA.com staff. For four years, this website has been a one-man operation (with random help from Jake). I'm ready to bring some new people aboard, but whoa!!! Slow down there! Don't e-mail me so fast! There's some things you should know first.
I am fairly strict. If your grammar sucks (and I mean more than spelling), then things probably wouldn't work out between you and me. You need to know how to say things correctly. For instance, don't send me an e-mail saying the following:
"hey LOL can i Join ur staff i play gta F*CK YOU!"
There are almost 10 things I find "wrong" with that. With grammatical stuff, I like things spelled out right. It's rare for you to find "CJ" anywhere on my website. I almost always say "Carl Johnson." Also, it's not "GTA VC"...but rather "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City."
The following positions are available:
News Investigator - I don't like "news posters." Anyone can post news. I want you to find out everything about the story from multiple sources.
Hosted Site Manager - Find hosted sites for PlanetGTA! We need them!
File System Manager - Keep up with and add new files to the website with the comprehensive file management system!
Let me know if you are interested, and don't just e-mail me saying you are. I need a reason to like you...not a reason to delete your e-mail. Good luck!
"She said you are engaging in a hyper real situation when playing the game which is a postmodern reality that blurs the distinctions between a live experience and simulation. She went on to say that you can navigate players, but they take on a life of there own. You impact his story and further it along, allowing him to eat and exercise. She went on to ask if it is "real." Then, she said "sure it is real. It allows you to do more than you could in real life. It allows you a hyper real way to race cars, kill people and get into high speed pursuits...all of which
most people wouldn't do in real life."
I have no doubt that other academic institutions use the franchise as a teaching tool. Let me know if your school uses the games in the context of the classroom.
In other news, it is Tuesday. The only two updates to the Vice City Stories official website have happened on Tuesday's. I am not claiming that it will happen tonight, but rather telling you to keep your eyes open.
