I think Dharma is a group of military scientists. Reason being if you remember before Goodwin died he and Ana Lucia were talking about a knife that Goodwin had and it was a military knife. The others also do experiments so they are scientists too.

I also think Libby could work for Hanso as a spy because she is in multiple flashbacks with different survivors. Kelvin could be the same way too.

I think the head boss is not Henry but I think it is the Chinese guy in the instructional tapes. I don't know what the connection is but I think they were being spied on previously and made sure they came to the island.

Have you ever noticed when Desmond and the survivors crashed they crashed in a storm? Maybe The Others control the weather or something.

One more thing: I think either there's a force field around the island or they're stuck in another dimension.

I'm a huge Lost fan and after watching this season, I think the whole island was once under a giant "electromagnetic" shield" which made it impossible to navigate because then magnetics would mess up compasses. But, like you said, someone had to be here before to build these hatches, etc. In season 1 they talked about hearing the numbers during the war, it's possible that this "shield" was used to cloak the island so that the enemy could not find it.

Just read your Lost Theories article. It was a good read and a nice summation of a number of different plot points that have been raised during the show's run.

You brought up one of the things that has interested me the most, which is the connections between the passengers. You point out that the writers are in dangerous waters as far as getting out of the situation. I agree, but with reservations.

I keep coming back to Hurley and the numbers. We know that very same numbers that act as the passcode to vent the electromagnetic energy are also being transmitted out, and that those numbers have a very real effect (assuming, of course, the whole lottery thing isn't just in Hurley's head) on events around the world. They helped him win the lottery, but they also seem to have caused bad luck for those around him.

It seems logical to me that if the forces that be could help Hurley win the lottery, then they could also control the lives of the passengers in such a way as to have them all run into one another.

Of course that doesn't answer what those forces are. Obviously the numbers are tied to it, and the numbers themselves are tied to the hatch, which is tied to the island, which seems to be tied to some sort of electrical field. So my question is: how does the hatch harness this power? Think about it. The electrical field must have existed before the hatch and the all the machinery, but the world didn't end. We know that the island (probably due to the electromagnetic field) seems to focus psychic or mental energy. Dead people, imaginary people, even a polar bear out of a comic book (although Walt conjured up that one, and he apparently already had powers) have all appeared at one point or another. Could Hanso have discovered this and decided to tap into it with some sort of machine, a side effect being that the energy must be drained every 108 minutes?

Seems possible at least, and if so the machine might allow whoever controls it to manipulate events around the world. Or maybe that was the idea, but it didn't quite work out. Instead the island's effects spread out in a small way to the rest of the world, causing these people to run into one another and eventually end up on the island. Could the electromagnetic field even be conscious in some small--maybe even animalistic way? My logic here (f***ed up as it is) is that our brains in a way store an electrical pattern, which makes up who we are. If there were a very specific sort of pattern around the island...

My last thought is also the simplest explanation for why the passengers touched one another's lives. It's the philosophical theory that any given person will constantly run into the same people over and over again until the day they die. One version of reincarnation even takes it a step further and says that we run into the same people over and over again throughout many lives. If the show takes this route it could be an interesting take on coincidence, free will, and determination.

As to why you'd want people in the Pearl "experimenting" on the Swan Staff with their obviously important job, I believe a possible answer is that the Pearl is meant to monitor the well-being of the people with the important job - the button pushers in the Swan. The people in the Pearl might charged with verifying that the Swan staff are healthy, sane, and can still do their job. You'll notice that the video said that the people in the Pearl would only be there for a few weeks, I think. This is to prevent the watchers from being in danger of not being able to do their jobs.
