Friday, 13 October, 2006 Planet Age of Empires News
In anticipation of the upcoming release of our Age of Empires III: The WarChiefs expansion pack, AgeCommunity.com has had several new updates made, as you may have already noticed! We have a new look, a new set of forums for expansion discussions, and more stats so players can browse and search our ladders for each of the games here on our site.
October 17th is the release date, so very soon we'll see you on the battlefield!
1) Why is it that if you have 10 sheep fattenning on your farm, your villagers cannot work the farm?
A the farm has a maximum of 10 workers. They can be livestock or humans in any combination. If you have 10 sheep at the farm, then all the production is going towards them and theres no room left for villies. But you could have 7 sheep & 3 villies or a similar combo.
2) Why does the Sioux 'prowler' unit have a build limit?
A because they have a radius effect that boosts all other Tashunke prowlers nearby, giving them more attack & hit points (kind of like the old AoM fenris wolf). So if they didnt have a build limit, you could make them theoretically all-powerful. And an all-powerful stealthy unit is pretty scary.
15) do axe riders only have universal convert, or do they all have their convert, if so, what stops for sioux player get huge outlaw& pet army on yukon?
A the axe riders each have an individual convert. Nothing stops them getting a huge outlaw & pet army on Yukon except for the fact theyll need to base their early strat on getting a stable up fast, throwing out some axe riders, sending this card, and then scouting like crazy. I urge you to try it. We did, and it was fun.

1) the Aztec Warrior Priest is equals to 2 Villagers when on the Fire Pit but does it have the ability to heal injured units and how strong is it in combat ?
A yes it can heal and it is strong enouigh in combat that we pull it off the firepit and send it into combat when a raiding force comes into town. Theyre not quite strong enough to be worth pulling off the firepit for a regular attack though or maybe the firepit itself is just too good.
3) If you decide to go back to original AOE III and play and you level up your Home City will it also level up your expansion Home City
A yes.
7) If every unit that has a bonus/minus against cav has one against LI, what differences exist between these unit types?
A its a different bonus units that are good vs. cavalry are less good vs. aztec light infantry. And while Aztec light infantry has a bonus against the same units as cavalry, they get less of one. So they are less extreme than cavalry. More like an AoM unit.
3) Is capping on Iroqoius Villagers (99) and then getting the +10 villager or +20 villager card for age upgrade and actually getting the villagers thus making your total amount of villagers 109 or 119 a bug
A no
9) when you look at the desription of mantlets it says that they protect units from gunfire, but how exactly does that work?
A they have a lot of hit points & a high resistance to ranged weapons. When happens in the game is that enemy units tend to target the mantlets and once they start shooting a mantlet they pretty much never stop. For isntance, a Veteran Skirimsher takes over two minutes of steady fire to kill a mantlet. Of course if the enemy player is trying to micro his soldiers so they dont shoot the mantlet then you have the edge in micro, because you can be targeting your guiys in more useful ways while he keeps trying to see whos shooting at what.
14) The natives have a much more decentralized upgrade system, in particular gather upgrades are not all at the market and require a farm/plantation to be built. Do you wish you had used this kind of a system for the Europeans, or was it just something to make the natives different?
A it was more a matter of the natives not having a capitol, arsenal, or church.
The ESO servers are going to be taken offline for regularly scheduled maintenance on 10/10 at 2:00pm GMT (9:00am CST). Server down time is expected to be approximately 60 minutes.
4) could 9 spies take on 10 jagers?
A lets do the math. The spy is faster than the jaeger, so its got no problem getting up close to the jaegers before striking. The spy will do 100 points of damage for every 12 that the jaegers are doing in return (counting the spy armor note that the jager armor is no good vs. the spy). The jaeger has more hit points (250 as opposed to 150). So bottom line? The spy takes 4.5 seconds to kill a jaeger (thats 3 blows, each taking 1.5 seconds). The jaeger takes 39(!) seconds to kill a spy (13 hits, each taking 3 seconds). And the spy costs only 70% as much. Which wins?
7) Considering Spies don't have a ranged attack Black Riders and other ranged Mercenaries can hit n run Spies so they don't seem to be cost effective
A first, spies are extremely fast. Their movement rate is 6.25, so hit-and-run will not be nearly as good as you think. Second, they are ABLE TO TURN INVISIBLE people. Think about it. You will NEVER see the spies when you are coming into an enemy town.
18) Do Iroquois (and other native villies for that matter) have the same or different BASE gather rate
A they are exactly the same. The native farm might LOOK slower than the European farm but thats because we had to adjust gather rates based on the fact that European settlers do a lot more walking around on their farm than the natives. The end result is that a native on a farm gathers at the same rate as a european on a mill.

10. America's Army: Special Forces v2.7 Client
Overall, not a bad demo. If you enjoyed Age of Empires III you'll feel right at home. That same lady with the non-regional diction is doing the narrations (my great gandfather did blah, blah blah, etc) and the graphics are still pretty nice. Maybe not as good as Company of Heroes, but the levels load in around three seconds as opposed to a minute. And yes, cannons are still overpowered.
