Double Agent Music Interview
Posted at 17:54 PST by Rifter | Splinter Cell News
Music 4 Games has a new interview up, with Michael McCann, who scored the game. You can read the actual interview here.
M4G: What is the most impressionable moment or highlight working on the Splinter Cell: Double Agent game?
Michael McCann: This was my first game, and first experience with interactive music. Since SC:DA is almost entirely interactive cinematics, critical choice cues, in-game, etc., I knew I was in for a very intense experience.
When I first sat down with Romain His (Audio Lead, Shanghai) we discussed a music style that was very organic, emotional and cinematic. But what really made an impression on me, aside from the story, was the music system. Romain had designed a music system to accommodate a very thematic and dramatic music style. The story is very strong and absolutely needs a score that can adapt, in real time, to the choices a player may make. The system allows for melodic, rhythmic and ambient elements to be treated separately, and offers so many combinations of layers/tracks within a single cue. So not only is there the different music for each level of game play (infiltration, fight), but also total freedom within each of these layers as well.

SCDA Dev Blog #4
Posted at 8:05 PST by Rifter | Splinter Cell News
The Splintercell website has news that a new SCDA Dev Blog is now up. Chris Smith talks about being interviewed, MGS, and even Splinter Cell. You can check out the blog, here: http://blog.ubi.com/splinter-cell-double-agent/article.php?content_id=1221.
So I have been out at the playtests for the game between working on the game itself (Yes, very busy one might say). You constantly overanalyze your game when youve worked on it for 2 years. What you forget and play tests remind you of is that what youve done is actually really impressive to someone seeing all that work for the first time. We are closereal close. At this point, its tuning and balancing of difficulty. This isnt fully down to me as we have a total of four designers on the project, each tuning different aspects so that the maximum effort is put into making the experience all it can be. Still, the play tests are both a joy and occasionally a complete surprise. Players do the strangest things will be a TV show one day I am sure, honesty its a marvel how the gameplay you create is expressed through different players

Rainbowsix: Vegas hands on
Posted at 13:58 PST by Rifter | General Rainbow Six News

I just noticed over on Team Xbox that they have a new hands-on preview of Rainbow Six: Vegas up! Head over and check it out!
The real key to any decent squad-based single player is having some type of predictable control over youre A.I. teammates. Ubisoft Montreal has designed Tom Clancys Rainbow Six Vegas to be extremely tactical, so having said control over squad mates is of greater importance this time around.
To help users keep their A.I. helpers in check, a system known as O.P.A. or Observe, Plan, and Assault has been utilized. One of the best ways to understand how this system works is to use a closed door as an example. Lets say Rainbow pulls up on a room with two entry ways, but both doors are shut with no windows; a dangerous situation for sure.

GRAW version 1.3 released!
Posted at 10:28 PST by Rifter | Ghost Recon News
Here it is at last! Map Pack 3/Version 1.3 has been released! You can download it at 3D Gamers or Fileplanet.
Here are the 2 new multi-player modes:
Siege Mode
In Siege you fight for control of a strategic zone, where one team defends (the Ghosts) while the other attacks (the Mexicans). If the attacking team manages to get inside the zone and survive for more than five seconds, they will win the game.
Original Ghost Recon Co-op Mode
In OGR Cooperative mode, you and your team-mates face off against hostile soldiers in enemy territory. Your mission is to reach the extraction point. The rebel troops have taken Camp Chapultepec and are using it as a staging area for their activities in the region. Their presence is increasingly affecting the operations of troops loyal to the Mexican President and the Ghosts are sent to deal with the situation before the rebels can fortify their position. This mode allows for up to 12 players to play together (3 teams of 4 players)!
You will additionaly find the new server files:
Standalone dedicated server executable
Server administration console (complete list of commands to host and manage your matches - restart match, change mode/map, change server options, kick/ban players -)
Along with these improvments, there are several bug fixes and multiplayer improvements.
