May 30, 2006 - 20th Century Fox's X-Men: The Last Stand enjoyed the fourth biggest opening in box office history this weekend, earning an estimated $120.1 million during the four-day Memorial Day weekend. Only Spider-Man, Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Shrek 2 earned more in their debuts.
As expected, last weekend's champ The Da Vinci Code, which had held the record for the year's best bow, fell to second place. The Sony release earned another $43 million domestically, and stayed atop the international box office.
DreamWorks Animation's Over the Hedge was third with $35.3 million, while Paramount's Mission: Impossible III was in fourth place with an estimated $8.6 million. Warners' Poseidon was fifth with $7 million.
Rounding out the top ten releases at the North American box office were: Sony's RV in sixth place with $5.3 million; Lionsgate's horror pic See No Evil in seventh with $3.2 million; Fox's Just My Luck in eighth with $2.3 million; Universal's United 93 was ninth with $1.1 million; and Freestyle's An American Haunting in 10th place with just under $1 million.
