November 16, 2005 - The Legend of Heroes: A Tear of Vermillion is the second part of a noted Japanese series called the Gagharv Trilogy. Developed by celebrated Tokyo-based studio Nihon Falcom, it shipped to retail yesterday in North America through the auspices of publisher Bandai. The handheld title is described as taking place in the post-Gagharv period, during a time when the land of El Phildin is suffering through a ferocious war. Its courageous inhabitants struggle to endure, but one is taken by the minions of Octum, the god of darkness. Avin, a young lad of 17, sets out to rescue his sister.

This epic quest will reportedly provide more than 50 hours of classic RPG gameplay as the youthful protagonist, accompanied by a trusty pet, undertakes a perilous journey through a meticulously detailed 3D world that holds many challenges and surprises. Aimed at both grognards and more casual players, the heroic adventure that ensues is also filled with a large, diverse assortment of characters, over 100 in all, designed by Minako Iwasaki. Having previously seen some rather impressive examples of her work, we were pleased indeed when we received the chance to present the collection of beautiful concept images that appears below.
