Fans Fight For 'Firefly' Revival

A new campaign is out in full force to once again try and bring the cult favorite Firefly back to television. The request is to have HBO or Showtime adopt and continue the Firefly television series.

So give the site a read, learn what they are trying to do, sign the petition, and pledge your support if you love the show. Many thought it was hopeless when Firefly was canceled, but the fans fought on and ended up getting a movie made. Let us see if the fans can make a difference again.

Gossett Likes Gerak's Character Arc

gateworld.net is reporting that award-winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr. relished his work on Stargate SG-1 this season, he told Stargate SG-1: The Official Magazine. In a new interview with the magazine, Gossett talked about the growth and perspective of the Jaffa leader Gerak.

Dick's 'Next' Is Next

scifi.com is reporting that Graham King's Initial Entertainment Group has bought the international rights to Revolution Studios' upcoming SF movie Next, based on Philip K. Dick's short story "The Golden Man."

'Next' tells the story of a man (Nicolas Cage) with the ability to see future events and affect their outcome. Julianne Moore plays a federal agent who pursues him as she tries to prevent a terrorist attack. The film is slated for 2007 release.

'Threshold' To Stream On Web

scifi.com is reporting that CBS will stream three episodes of its SF series Threshold on the network's official Web site, beginning Nov. 2, the network announced. The streams mark the first time CBS has offered episodes of scripted series programming on the Internet via free video streaming. The episodes will stream commercial-free.

The initial offering will be the third episode, "Blood of the Children," and will be available for three days. On Nov. 4, CBS will air "Revelations" on television, then make the episode available for streaming on the Web site from Nov. 9 to 11. On Nov. 11, the episode "Progeny" airs on TV, then hits the Web Nov. 16-18.

For far too long, female roles in science fiction had one purpose only: to be the damsel in distress. Think about it, female apes were given stronger, more impressive characterization. Thankfully, the majority of screenwriters today seem to really �get it� when it comes to giving women equal roles of men � and I truly do believe you see much stronger roles for women in science fiction than any other genre. Perhaps that�s the reason the science fiction genre has become so much more appealing to women in recent decades. It�s nice to know that there are people out there who believe their girlfriend/wife/mother/sister is just as capable of taking out the scary alien invaders as they are.
