Daniel's criticism of the WSOP's hold'em heavy lineup
(found here) has sparked a
popular discussion at 2+2.
Apparently
this guy isn't just some actor from Rounders. Who knew?
Good news, fellow degenerates -- Sirius Satellite Radio has announced
The "Joe Average Poker Show".
GameSpy has
has another report from last month's STACKED event at Bellagio. Yes, there are Evelyn Ng pictures.
Get Your New CardPlayer Here!
Here's the
newest issue - but that's 30+ articles! As always, the top 5, starting with the best. You're welcome!
1- Daniel Negreanu's "Yapping With..."
People are all too happy to try to say nothing, move not an inch, all to hide whatever tells they think they're broadcasting that they forget that they can oftentimes gain far more information from their opposition than will be gained in reverse. This is something STACKED's own Daniel Negreanu knows all too well, as evidenced by him as he
savagely outplayed yet another outclassed opponent. For more of his beatings, check out the next article:
2- Phil Hellmuth's "Clash with Negreanu"
Phil Hellmuth vs. STACKED master Daniel Negreanu: who wins every time? Daniel Negreanu, right?
Obviously!
3- Alan Schoonmaker's "Dilemma"
Is your friend even worse at poker than you are? Are you coaching him in the game? Are you being coached by someone? Dr. Al explains the pitfalls of
coaching, which are vital to know regardless of what side of the table you're on.
4- Dan Kimberg's "Adjusting for Draws"
As young lads we're told to never adjust ourselves in public as it's rude, despite whether your underwear is riding up yet again as your mother bought those 3-for-$5 bargain specials that you constantly told her not to and it made Sally laugh at you last week at the 2nd grade field trip and-- Never mind. Anyway, how do you adjust your play of a weak drawing hand like a backdoor flush draw?
Here's Daniel with the answer.
5- Roy Cooke's "The Poker Pro Dream"
Somehow my man Roy snuck into another Top 5 here in my CardPlayer countdown. It's very disheartening.
Here he talks about becoming a poker professional and what you need to do. He leaves out the most important step, though: play and master STACKED, for that is the #1 way to poker fame and fortune. Until its release, those of us who depend on poker for our income (or could, if we had to) are all just treading water.
Daniel Negreanu has breathed life into my otherwise miserable existence with his latest
blog entry. Daniel plays some poker and gives me a headache describing various prop bets.
Rejoice, fellow Arieh fans, our man Josh has
updated his blog. Josh misses deadlines, hits the links, plays some poker, and leads his daughter into a future in gambling.
Are we really still talking about whether poker is a game of
luck or skill?
WSOP 2006 Schedule Has Been Posted
Huzzah! Naturally, to compliment that information, there is an article at
PokerNews as well as a discussion at
2+2.
Who Wins at the "Big Game" in Vegas?
We already know the answer from Bill Fillmaff's Secret System 5, but not every
2+2'er is as savvy as you.
Those English Poker-Playing Blokes
When you ask John Q. Public about England, you'll get opinions ranging from calling them our 53rd state (after Puerto Rico and Canada) to still being upset that they, you know, tried to kill all of our country's founders hundreds of years ago. But since I started writing for the English site
Gutshot, I became of a different mindset, which is why I was unhappy to learn about
the problems their gaming clubs are having. This is yet another reason why STACKED will be such a Godsend: no dubious legality issues; just 100% pure poker fun.
WSOP Memories: The Guy Who Cried...
...when his King high flush lost. We are building up lots of great stories from the Main Event of the 2005 WSOP, and
this is one of them.
Christmas is a magical time of year that's made special by people buying you stuff. And as we all know, it's never too early to start thinking about what people should get you this year. Remind them early and often --
WPT: Making the Final Table by Erick Lindgren.
I pity the poor fools who play tournament poker and haven't read
Dan Harrington's two masterpieces.
Doyle Brunson
answered a few questions in a recent interview.
TG:"How has playing before television cameras and becoming an international celebrity changed you or the way you play?"
DB:"actually I play like I've always played. I don't pay much attention to the cameras. I don't get out there and try to be a performer. The cameras don't bother me . . ."
Incidentally, I recently bumped into Doyle Brunson and asked a few questions of my own.
Brandon Hammonds: "Oh my God, is that really you?"
Doyle Brunson: "Yes."
BH:"Shutup! Seriously?"
DB: "Yes."
BH: "Can I try on your hat?"
DB: . . .
Surely this is a Mistake...
It seems there is a group of college students located in . . .umm, somewhere other than North America . . .that are petitioning their local government in hopes to bring about
tighter poker regulations.
Rumor has it that next on the agenda for these crazy college kids is the banning of alcohol on campus, elimination of co-ed dorms, and finally getting rid of that dreaded summer vacation.
There's No Crying in Poker
2+2ers are well-known for their collective heart of gold. Here is yet another example of the
sympathy, grace, and love that they have become famous for.
Daniel Negreanu -- 6 Flights in 2 Days
Unbelievable! What isn't unbelievable is that he enjoys a quality show like Curb Your Enthusiasm from HBO, home of many other quality shows like Sopranos, Oz, and Six Feet Under.
Erick Lindgren & Evelyn Ng's Websites
I hope you won't mind, but this is a combo post where I'm going to mention my girlfriend Nicole. The reason I'm mentioning her is that she made me promise that I would, so I am. Last night she asked me why Brandon and I always talk about other STACKED pro's and their websites - especially Daniel Negreanu - but have never, to her knowledge, mentioned Erick or Evelyn's. So I'm going to link to both of their sites and I suggest you promptly check out both, as it will make Nicole happy, capiche?
Erick Lindgren's Wonderful Site
Evelyn Ng's Gorgeous Site
More Poker to Watch on TV - Wahooooo!
I think I only have about twenty hours per week of poker to watch. That certainly isn't enough. So, thanks in advance
GSN.
Poker Growth Reaches Corporate World
Ah, corporations: boring meetings, useless suits, incompetent secretaries, horrid lunches, nonstop stress, and incessant backstabbing - no wonder I've always worked for myself instead of "the man." But apparently now some companies are using poker stuff as
employee gifts so I think I will go and fill out my resume in order to get an IBM embossed deck of cards.
Phil Hellmuth Fall Family Fun Festival
Something for everyone about everyone's "favorite" non-STACKED pro, if your definition of "favorite" is the opposite of the one you'll find in the dictionary:
1000 Words by Paul Phillips plus its corresponding 2+2 thread
2+2 discusses his Main Event antics some more
Anthony Soprano Jr. Caught in Poker Raid
The Sopranos is one of the best shows ever, so it's too bad "AJ" got caught by some
bored policemen who could've been finding, you know, the jerk who keyed my car the other night.
Do The Big Name Players Not Tip?
Ah, tipping. That thing that has cost me thousands and thousands of dollars for the "joy" of playing live which will soon be a memory once STACKED debuts and I'll never have to tip anyone ever again. If you want to read about millionaire poker players who won't throw a dude a buck, check out
this 2+2 thread.
Doomsayers Unite: The End of Poker...
LOL, LOL, and LOL indeed! I realize many people are new to poker now, but some of us have been around forever (okay, since before Rounders, even if not seriously playing then) and, trust me, poker has NEVER been bigger than it is now. So when you read
silly things like this, LOL away and keep waiting for STACKED to debut, as that will mark a new highpoint in poker.
Look for a
televised cash game on GSN featuring
"...professional poker players competing against wealthy amateurs in cash games with a $100,000 buy-in." Also, look for Phil Hellmuth to be the first pro charged with homicide at the poker tables after a river card costs him $100,000 of his own money.
2+2 has a thread discussing Daniel's recent blog entry about
playing in the big game.
A 2+2er has discovered that Phil Hellmuth
will not win another major tourney. You can take this info to the bank, as it has been posted by an anonymous stranger on a public message board.
Even though he will never win again, check out this
Q&A; with Phil Hellmuth.
Daniel Negreanu has taken pity on us and written yet another
blog entry to enrich our lives.
Yet another police raid has shut down yet another
underground poker game. This time
Soprano's star
Robert Iler was playing, but he was let go by the kind-hearted police (along with thirty others).
Strategy: How to Play in a "Family Pot"
Next year when you have your hands on the hottest item of '06 (STACKED, of course!) you will often find yourself in a "family pot" where all 10 people on the table are in the hand. So ... what do you do? Well, I found myself in that exact situation at Foxwoods recently, and
this is what I did.
Daniel Negreanu is a writing machine. Check out
his latest blog entry where he discusses "a day at the office." His office of course is the poker room, and I bet it's pretty nice to be able to lose almost $150,000 and then describe it as
"Not my best day at the office, but it wasn't all that bad really."
Daniel Negreanu has decided to share a little bit of his infinite poker wisdom with us
in his latest article, where he talks about the always dangerous "Big Slick."
"Sure it's nice to look down at your hole cards and find an AK, but more often than not, if you end up playing a big pot with this hand you'll be statistically behind. The most likely event is a coin flip situation, where the outcome is close to 50-50."
