Age Of Chivalry Media Update 1 Comments 10/22/2005 20:04 PST | Half-Life 2 Mods | by WhoKnew It's a veritable cornucopia of medieval media! Age Of Chivalry posted a new update on the state of their medieval Half-Life 2 mod.
As you can see, they've got some renders of their new evil knight player model, as well as some concept art for a good knight and a good archer. They've even got a render of a cool crossbow and a couple of shots of a map and a single in-game shot. At their site they've got a download of their new theme song. They're also looking for an animator, a prop/object modeler and a mapper, so if you are one of those and you like this mod, maybe you should apply.
This week we'd like to draw your attention to the work going on at Black Widow Games, a long time Half-Life MOD team. They've just annouced "They Hunger: Lost Souls" a Source-based follow up to their "They Hunger" series of games. Head on over to their site to get a look at what they've done so far.
Our current plan is to release Half-Life 2: Lost Coast next week. Lost Coast is a free level for everyone who owns Half-Life 2, and serves as an HDR technology demo based in an unreleased section of the "Highway 17" chapter of Half-Life 2.
After Lost Coast is released, we'll be working on getting some new content for both Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source, along with an update to the SDK, out the door. More info coming on that next week.

The Specialists 3.0 Update 22 Comments 10/20/2005 18:36 PST | Half-Life Mods | by WhoKnew The crew of The Specialists posted a HUGE update on the state of TS3.0. The new particle system is essentially totally functional, giving more gusto to the blood spurts, sparks, and dust sprays. There's a new animation for the Desert Eagle, a new multi-color laser sight, and a double clip powerup (replaces infinite ammo and doubles your clip size). The multitude of 9mm SMGs in TS2.2 has given rise to the Skorpion, a new dual-wieldable 7.62mm SMG. If you missed the update previous to this one, other changes in this new version of The Specialists are a blue tint during slow-mo and a fade in and out of slow-mo and slow-pause. Even more changes include a whizzing sound as bullets rip by your head, a first person kung-fu model, and a new 1 shot hunting pistol called the Contender. The Specialists is a multiplayer action movie mod for Half-Life 1.
Shaping up to be one heck of an "update!" You can find The Specialists at specialistsmod.net.
Fixed Purchase Wizard getting corrupt text when the back button was pressed
Added ability for 3rd party Source Mods to have an icon in the games list, via an "icon" entry in their GameInfo.txt file. The icon filename is relative to games install directory and should be an uncompressed TGA 16x16 pixels in size
Fixed small memory leak in core engine
I'm ecstatic about the new icons. Should allow mod-makers to give even more of a professional look to their games!

Black Widow Games Announces "They Hunger: Lost Souls" 51 Comments 10/19/2005 16:49 PST | Half-Life 2 Mods | by Pratt It is with great pleasure to report that one of our longest-running hosted sites, Black Widow Games, is announcing their latest creation entitled "THEY HUNGER: LOST SOULS". The unison of designer Neil Manke and programmer Einar Saukas have gone over the top, heading up a full team of game developers who promise to push this follow-up to the smash mod series "They Hunger" to the very limits of VALVe's revolutionary Source engine. Here's the full scoop:
Black Widow Games announced today the development of THEY HUNGER: LOST
SOULS, a commercial game powered by the award-winning Half-Life 2 Source
engine from Valve Software. Based upon the highly popular They Hunger mod
series, the upcoming title features a completely new horror-survival adventure.
In North-Eastern Europe during the early 1960's, strange anomalies culminate
with dead corpses rising from their graves. As a tourist recovering from a
tragic accident, you seek shelter in an ancient monastery overrun by
bloodthirsty zombies, and become involved in an escalading cascade of
calamities.
"THEY HUNGER: LOST SOULS is a first-person action game planned to take full
advantage of the superior graphics, physics and new gameplay possibilities
provided by the new Source technology," said designer Neil Manke. "Without
the previous technical restrictions of the now seven years old Half-Life 1
engine, we have been able to produce a brand new game far more exciting and
creative than any simple sequel or remake could ever be. Fans of the
original series should still recognize the basic gameplay style, although
this is an independent story with no previous knowledge required."
This mod promises to be one of the most talked-about since the release of Half-Life 2! For some more articles about BWG here at PHL, check out some of these links:
The Wastes is a multiplayer post-apocalyptic total conversion for Half-Life 2. You play as one of the few remnants of humanity, battling it out for survival in harsh and unforgiving environments, ranging from midwest deserts to cold dead cities.
Spanning over 6 years, The Wastes has come a long way. Many team members have come back for this version, and I am currently managing this from the ground up. I am excited about the work already underway in the past few weeks, and I hope you will be as well. TW:S will feature an original back-story, diverse weapons, wacky characters, and unique and inspiring game modes.

Weekend Mod Update 3 Comments 10/16/2005 18:36 PST | Half-Life Mods | by Pratt Here's some mod news that's been kicking around the office. Some is a bit overdue - we apologize for that and will be back up to par soon.
So, without further ado:
Pirates Vikings and Knights II has a bunch of new media, including the Heavy Knight, several prop models and weapons, and some good looking maps too.
Empires Mod's new alpha test is well underway, and they have let us have a sneak peak at several really impressive looking screens. Also, Team Lead Krenzo will be interviewed by Gamesurge Radio this coming Wednesday. Check the site for more details.
Real-Time Strategy FPS C4 Commando has some new media to show, including two shots that are an exclusive to ModDB.
BRAWL hand-to-hand combat mod's player modeling contest runs for another two weeks. Small Sumo has finished his model if you want to take a peek and/or one-up him.
The Hidden - Source was released, but a few ornery bugs saw the need for a quick fix. Thanks to "a mixture of caffeine and dedication", a patch was released. Check the website for the latest download links.
