Rodriguez, Sharks, Lava and Sin City 2
The director on his next project and a possible Sin sequel!
- Robert Rodriguez has always been a director who keeps himself very busy. Notorious for turning in his films quickly and under budget, Rodriguez is about to release his highly ambitious adaptation of Sin City, which he co-directed with creator Frank Miller. Wasting no time, Rodriguez is already finishing work on a family film entitled The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D, slated for release only a few months after Sin City's April 1st release.

IGN FilmForce spoke with Rodriguez this weekend at the press day for Sin City where he spoke a bit about his next project and also gave his thoughts on a Sin City sequel.

"The next thing that comes out is Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3-D, I'm still finishing that. [It's coming out] in June. I gotta hurry up and finish!"

Collaborating with Rodriguez on this project was actually his young son. "My little kid came up with [the idea], my seven-year-old. [It's called] The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. We were playing in the swimming pool and I'm playing the shark and he says, 'Hey, you're shark dad, I'm shark boy. Let's make a movie about shark boy [and] I'll be the shark boy.' I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah, whatever.' So we were drawing it out and it became this movie…

"I got really excited about that, getting to work with my family on a movie for other families. So I thought, 'This is something that I can wake up in the morning and work on. This is gonna be [something we can] put all our imagination into.

"The bad ideas, the ideas you don't get excited about, fall away. The ones that come forward are the ones that get your blood pumping, get your heart pumping. The ones that you can't sleep until you do them, those are the ones that keep me up all night and keep me working."

Rodriguez says that he had a great time working on Sin City, although it was actually much harder than he first imagined. Sin is based on three of the books from Miller's graphic novel series of the same title. The obvious question now is, will Rodriguez direct the other three books in a sequel? "I'd love to do another one. We'll have to see how this one does. If people dig it, we'll make another one…"
