Celebrity Cuts: Nathan Larson
But a strange thing happened on the way to the forum one day, so to speak. STT crafted the deft pop album soundtrack to the independent film First Love, Last Rites. Shortly thereafter the group disintegrated, but Larson had found his new niche: scoring for film (he also met, fell in love, and eventually married Cardigans' frontwoman Nina Persson during the First Love sessions and now resides in Sweden).
Larson's film credits are about as eclectic as his workw ith STT was. To date he has contributed music to films like High Art, Boys Don't Cry, Dirty Pretty Things, as well as two Todd Solondz films (Storytelling and Palindromes) and two Joel Schumacker films (Phone Booth and Tigerland). We managed to track Larson down in his new home town of Molmo, Sweden and he graciously gave up his list of current heavy rotation tunes on his portable stereo device. I like this one because it's an evil jam and I can't get into the new record. I don't normally dig the "We don't have a bass player" thing, but these guys put it down. Plus Dan Auerbach is such a fantastic singer. I dig this one 'cause they wrote the best songs, they were one of the top 5 best American bands ever, and they got a raw deal in terms of their music ever reaching a large audience.
