April 5, 2005 - Ys VI and Ys III may have just arrived to Japan, but Taito thinks there's room for more. And so, the PS2 remake of the SNES Ys IV: Mask of the Sun is closing in on its May Japanese release date.

Just in time for the release, Taito has opened a webpage for the title, which carries the official name Ys IV: Mask of the Sun -- A New Theory. The page can be accessed here.

The screenshots available at the page are too tiny to make out any details, but it should be obvious that Taito has taken the 2D of the original and turned it into an overhead 3D game which resembles Ys VI in some ways (we've seen the game in motion, and it looks surprisingly close to the Konami release). In addition to the new visual style, A New Theory also includes a new "Element" system as well as new story sequences.

Let's hope it ends up offering more than Ys III, which proved to be a nicely-done remake of a terrible game.
