March 31, 2005 - Beauty Shop, the Barbershop spin-off starring Queen Latifah, hits theaters tomorrow.  Before you write the film off as cheesy knock-off of its big-screen predecessor, consider our review of the flick. Jeff Otto, who checked it out for us, says this: "Beauty Shop takes a conventional story and gives it a heart, a brain and multi-faceted characters, placing them in a wide variety of situations. It's formulaic, but it works that formula with skill. It's a film that whole families can enjoy, regardless of race, creed or whatnot. For something I was certainly not looking forward to, Beauty Shop was an entertaining, very pleasant surprise."

Now, fellas... if that's not enough of to convince you to give this flick the time of day, consider this: Alicia Silverstone, Golden Brooks, Mena Suvari, and Keshia Knight-Pulliam. Uh huh. The babes! 

I know what you're thinking... "Keshia Knight-Pulliam?! Isn't that Rudy from the Cosby Show?" Well, let's just say Rudy is all grown up and Dr. Huxtable would never have let her leave the house dressed like this!

Beauty Shop stars Queen Latifah as Gina Norris (Queen Latifah). Gina's moved to Atlanta to make a name for herself at a posh Southern salon with her cutting-edge hairstyles. But when her flamboyant, egotistical boss (Kevin Bacon) takes it one criticism too far, she leaves his salon to open a shop of her own, taking the shampoo girl (Silverstone) and a few key clients (MacDowell, Suvari) with her.

Gina buys a rundown salon and inherits an opinionated group of headstrong stylists (including Woodard), a colorful clientele, and a sexy upstairs neighbor (Hounsou).
