The Ladies of Sin City
We talk with Rosario Dawson, Brittany Murphy and Jessica Alba.
- In the fast-paced world of Sin City, the men are tough talking and hard living. They live their lives moment by moment and don't look back. The ladies of Sin City, in contrast, are sexy seductresses. They'll keep the men happy, but if you cross them, you probably won't live to tell about it. For a closer look at all the ladies of the Sin City graphic novels, head on over to IGN Comics.

Arriving in theaters this Friday is the visually breathtaking new film from director Robert Rodriguez, Sin City. The movie is based on three graphic novels by Frank Miller, who also co-directed the film, creating one feature film with intertwining stories. The result is a highly charged crime adventure unlike anything you've ever seen before on screen.

At the recent press day for Sin City at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles, IGN FilmForce got the treat of talking to three of the sexy leading ladies from the film: Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and Brittany Murphy.

SPOILER WARNING: To those unfamiliar with the Sin City graphic novels, some mild spoilers are discussed in the course of the following interview.

The stories of Sin City are heavily steeped in sex and violence, often walking a thin line between good old pure entertainment value and outright misogyny. When asked how they would respond to the criticism that the film exploits women, Rosario Dawson jumps in right away, obviously passionate about her viewpoint. "Are women going to want to see it specifically for that reason?" Dawson asks. "I think absolutely. When she's standing there and he actually punches her across the face, and she actually tries to chop his pecker off… All the women working in Old Town, we take care of ourselves. We are very in control of what we are. We know what our assets are. We make money off of it. We call the shots, which I think is really powerful. It's a very even keel sort of strength between the men and the women. The guys get their balls ripped off and the girls get to do it and will. It's a pretty tough town on both sides."

"I thoroughly agree with everything Rosario just said," Murphy adds. "If you look at the undertones of Frank Miller's writing, there's a balance to everything… Also moments with Marv and Carla's character, when she's crying and he says women just need to get it out. I love that part… Because I find it true and I'm proud to be a woman and femininity is one of my greatest strengths and assets."
