    Sagdoll Techdemo v1.1 Released
    08:19 | by Jube
MauveBib has announced the release of his Sagdoll Techdemo v1.1 for Quake. The new demo includes some code optimisation and a few major efficiency improvements. Here's a snip from quaddicted:

Also, limbs now use avelocity instead of setting angles directly, which makes it MUCH smoother, especially in slowmo. Oh, and I've also included the source code, so if anyone fancies adding this to their mod, go right ahead. I've still got to deal with the clipping limbs bug, but I'm working on it, honest!

    Ghost Ops v1.1 Released
    08:18 | by Al3xand3r
The developers of Ghost Ops have released version 1.1 of their modification addressing many of the issues that were found upon its release. Read on for what they had to say and a rough changelog.
First off, this patch does NOT address the following things:
  • It does NOT fix the consta-spawn problem, which obviously then does NOT fix the gren-spawning, C4-spawning, etc.
  • It does NOT fix player balance - we tweaked some settings a bit but we need more testing and time to really fix those up proper. keep the community feedback coming, every little bit helps!

Here are some things it DOES address:
  • Crash bugs. We have fixed at least 4 separate server and client crash bugs.
  • Network and local latency problems - fixed as much as was possible from the code. We have to scale back our maps a little in the update to really get the wailing net perf we want.
  • Fixed outrageously huge blood effect.
  • Spectator mode! Type to each other, keep an eye on your deployment timer, use the chase cam, etc.

We will have another patch to fix spawning issue VERY soon.

  • Download the Ghost Ops v1.1 Client Patch from FilePlanet

You may find additional mirrors for the Client and Server patch on the Ghost Ops files page.

    Where's Squishy?!
    08:18 | by Cyric
Well it seems our resident advice cacodemon Squishy has finally given us the slip once and for all and is no where to be found. After checking out all his regular drinking holes, we have heard rumours that Squishy was seen floating around the IGN Vault and GameSpy Planet sites. Since we can't be everywhere at once, we need your help to track him down. As a reward for finding him, we are offering up a copy of DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil to one of the poor souls that find out where he is. That's our offer to help track down our drunken demon and bring him home. You can head to this page for more information on the whole ordeal.

    ActionTrip: Unreal Engine 3 Exposed
    08:17 | by redef
ActionTrips Nikerym, in a stroke of literary genius, has published an article entitled Unreal Engine 3 Exposed. As the title suggests, it describes the technical aspects of UE3, and how they will relate to our daily lives. Such is this example concerning organ payment plans:
Sweeny explained this advanced engine is intended for what Epic thinks will be the mainstream in 2006 and next-gen consoles, with DirectX 9.0 as the minimum specification, considering the fact that 1GB video card will let you enjoy the game at full detail. If you cannot afford a 1 Gig video card, Microsoft is rumored to be preparing a program where gamers can trade in their organs in exchange for computer part upgrades. Need more RAM? Simply donate 1 kilo of bone marrow. Donating one of your corneas will get you a new CPU and that 1 Gig video card I just mentioned can be yours for a kidney. Keep in mind that most humans can survive with only one kidney filleting the deadly toxins and bodily wastes from their bloodstream, which is good because NVIDIA's GeForce 6800 is namely the first video card that can run this new engine properly.

    Earth's Special Forces Update
    02:53 | by Al3xand3r
The Earth's Special Forces website has been updated with a cool looking screenshot and information about a new effects scripting system the team has been working on.
Over the past month Pcjoe has been slaving away on a new fx scripting system for ESF. The fx system will allow anyone to use an ingame editor to create and control particles systems, models, sprites, animations, camera manipulation, and much more. The fx system will be heavily used, but not limited to melee and transformation effects. In short, ESF will have the power to allow people to create special fx without having extensive programming knowledge. As an example check out this kick ass radial blur effect that can be done with the fx system.

    PongSource Released
    02:52 | by Al3xand3r
This is what the PongSource team had announced on their website when they first started working on their project.
We here at PongSource remember the old days. When mods were made in days and were fun. One of our favorites was Qpong for Quake. But now mods take forever. Some of the mods coming out for Half-life 2 do look good, but the developers seem to be more into completely modifying the game. Well, we don't want to take time, we want to have fun. So we are going to try and make PongSource quick, easy, but most of all FUN.

They certainly lived up to that as you can now head to the PongSource website and download the first public release of this fun-tastic project!

    James Schmalz (Pariah) Interview
    02:50 | by redef
James Schmalz is continuing to schmooze the public, this time being interviewed at NoFrag. This interview primarily contains old info (concerning Pariah), but there are a few interesting tidbits. Heres an excerpt:
Let's talk about vehicles: how many of them are available? Most important: are they destructible? What is their use in the game? Also, is the player pretty much forced to use them (like in Half-Life 2), or is it just a sort of bonus?

[...] They are a substantial portion of both the single player and multiplayer games and are a key part of the gameplay. They are currently a combination of wheeled and hover vehicles that offer a good variety for the player. There is a single-manned, fast vehicle and a 2-person vehicle where the passenger can man the secondary turret as well as multi-person transport vehicles. They are destructible too.

Rebellion is a multiplayer modification for Half-Life 2 that is based on the week long insurrection against the Combine during the Half-Life 2 storyline.

There will be two gameplay modes implemented in the modification; cooperative and team based multiplayer. Both modes are based around assault and defense gameplay, where one team defends an objective from the other team. However, in cooperative play, the players will be the guerilla rebellion forces defending against the Combine forces.
