March 23, 2005 - Lions Gate Films has hired a director for the forthcoming sequel to their indie-ish horror hit Saw. The Hollywood Reporter scoops that Darren Lynn Bousman will take the helm of Saw 2. Bousman, an established music video and commercial director, has already co-written the script for the second installment with original writer/co-star Leigh Whannel and director James Wan.

THR adds that principal photography on Saw 2 is set to start on May 2 in Toronto with a Halloween release in mind. They aren't wasting any time.

Lions Gate gave the go-ahead on a sequel after the relatively low-budget film, which starred Cary Elwes, Danny Glover and Monica Potter, brought in $18.3 million during its opening weekend. It went on to gross $55 million domestically.

Saw 2's storyline is being kept under wraps, but it's expected to continue the bloody tale of a twisted psychopath's murderous cat and mouse games.
