Tales from the Toybox: That's Incredible!
Incredibles busts from NECA.
March 17, 2005 - I'm betting it hasn't escaped your notice, but if it did, mark this as a formal reminder that Brad Bird's brilliant Pixar flick The Incredibles has hit that spiffy little round digital disc this week.
In recognition, I thought I'd point you towards some of the best
Incredibles collectibles currently on the market, courtesy of those geek-friendly folks at
NECA
You know, the same guys that brought us those stunning
Kill Bill,
Nightmare Before Christmas, and
Ghostbusters releases last year, and have a slate that includes
Sin City,
Hitchhiker's Guide, and a few other surprises coming up.
If you've seen the majority of the
Incredibles merchandise out there, there's generally been one overarching aspect that ties it all together - it's all crap.
To clarify that a bit, let's just say that 90% of the toys and collectibles out there don't quite capture the characters - it's close, but doesn't quite get the proverbial cee-gar, as it were. Longtime readers of this column know that, if there's one thing I'm a real stickler for in toys and collectibles based on existing properties, it's that they should be on model - because, really, all it takes is a company that cares enough about its products to get a good sculptor in to "do it right."
NECA did it right.
Don't believe me? How about a look at the trio of
Incredibles busts they've released - "Overweight" Bob, Frozone, and the dastardly Syndrome?
Take a look at the pics below and tell me they don't make you think, "Yeah, they got it right." My only issue with these resin pieces is a very slight sloppiness to some of the paint lines - something I hope NECA addresses, because otherwise these are just about as close to perfect as you're gonna get. Each measures approximately 9" and carries a $59.95 SRP.
Anyway, enough of the babbling - on with the pics!
