March 15, 2005 - Ubisoft announced today it is now shipping Silent Hunter III, the latest in the submarine simulation series.
"We're really excited to finally let players man the torpedoes and completely immerse themselves in Silent Hunter III," said Florin Boitor, producer at Ubisoft's Romanian studio. "The team is very proud of the early feedback within the community and the press. We feel we've succeeded in creating an all-new U-boat experience that combines movie-like graphics and a realistic atmosphere, while making it challenging to both series fans and players new to naval simulations."
Silent Hunter III, like previous games in the series, put players in the midst of the battles between German U-boats and Allied naval forces in World War II. Taking the role of the U-boat commander, players seek enemies with sonar and periscope, attack with torpedoes, destroy with the deck gun, or command their crew to do the job. A new 3D engine features detailed U-boat models based on real WWII technology.
