Created in December 2000, following Vivendi's successful merger with Canal+ and Seagram. Vivendi Universal Publishing (VUP) is currently the third largest publisher in the world (2002) and present in four language areas (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese).
The games publishing arm, known as Vivendi Universal Games (VU Games), releases interactive entertainment software products for all major platforms including PCs, videogame consoles, handheld devices and the Internet.
VU Games' portfolio of studios and publishing labels includes Blizzard Entertainment, Coktel, Fox Interactive, Massive Entertainment and Sierra Entertainment. The group also retains rights to some of the most popular brands in the games industry including leading franchises Diablo, StarCraft, Warcraft, Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Half-Life, The Simpsons and JumpStart .
Vivendi Universal is headed up by Agnes Touraine and Alain Kouck. VU Games is headed by Rene Penisson (chairman) and Bruce Hack (CEO).
