Sluggo, over at GameSpy, had a chance to give the new expansion pack for DOOM 3 a run through and posted up
his impressions. There seems to be a lot of improvements made to the gameplay over the original DOOM 3 and id tried to give the fans what they wanted while keeping the terrifying feel of the DOOM universe. Here's a snip:
"If there was one thing we wish had been handled better in DOOM 3, it was the moments where you'd grab a health or armor pack and a secret door would slide open, revealing some zombie lurking in a cubbyhole. ...it was so obvious and common in DOOM 3 that it almost became comical at points. So it's interesting to note that while demons still teleport in to attack you (hey, that's what demons do), we didn't run across any "monster closets" during our testing of Resurrection of Evil. We don't know if this is the case for the entire expansion (and doubt it would make or break the expansion, anyway), but it was just one of many signs that the gameplay has been tightened up a bit this time around"
Head on over to GameSpy to check out the
full article and trailer.

File Front Interviews Todd Hollenshead
File Front had the opportunity to sit down and talk with CEO Co-founder, Todd Hollenshead about Doom 3 and the upcoming title for Xbox. Todd talks about id's general emphasis on keeping the Xbox version of Doom 3 close to its PC predecessor. He also mentions some inspirations for id's artists and technical staff. Later on in the article Todd describes (in-depth) the technology behind whats making Doom 3 look so good on such a weaning system (Xbox). Todd does make an interesting point that many people hold strongly:
Its a cool thing that everyone can play it without having to worry, do I have to upgrade my hardware, or what have you. I think a lot of people that wanted to play the game on the PC, but maybe didnt have the system set-up will be able to get the full experience on the Xbox.
For those of you who aren't too informed on the Doom franchise, or if you're one of those people who simply can't get enough Doom then this article is for you. For the full article click here.
Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil Interview
id Software representatives sit down to talk with
Computer Games Magazine about Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. Matt Hooper and Marty Stratton explain how the expansion is actually a sequel to Doom 3, which was in production before the blockbuster title even hit the shelves back in August 04. While not shedding light on anything totally new, the article does include an interesting bit of information on the grabber," a gravitational weapon used to pick up objects.
Another new item is the grabber, which makes better use of the physics system. While this item may sound similar to Half-Life 2s gravity gun, the grabber will be able to do some different things, including deflecting projectiles like rockets. It will even be able to throw around some of the smaller creatures.

article.
