Weekend Movies
Hitch, Ong-Bak and more.
- There are a few fresh flicks for you to check out in theaters this weekend. Will Smith's Hitch opens wide opposite Pooh's Heffalump Movie. Nice. Well, if those aren't your style you can seek out a theater showing the martial arts actioner Ong Bak, or the documentary Inside Deep Throat, both of which are opening in limited release.

Here's a look at the new films and our reviews...

Hitch
Cast:
Will Smith, Kevin James, Eva Mendes, Amber Valletta
Director: Andy Tennant
Writers: Jessica Bedinger, Kevin Bisch, Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel
Rated: PG-13 for Language and Some Strong Sexual References

The Scoop:  Alex "Hitch" Hitchens (Will Smith) is a legendary New York City "date doctor" who, for a fee, has helped countless men woo the women of their dreams. While coaching Albert (Kevin James), a meek accountant who is smitten with a glamorous celebrity, Allegra Cole (Amber Valletta), Hitch finally meets his match in the person of the gorgeous, whip-smart Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), a gossip columnist who follows Allegra's every move. The ultimate professional bachelor, Hitch suddenly finds himself falling in love with Sara.

The Review:  Todd Gilchrist gives Hitch 4 out of 5 stars. He says, "While Smith's character pretends to be the cure for the common man, his performance provides the cure for the common comedy."

Pooh's Heffalump Movie
Voice Cast:
Brenda Blethyn, Jim Cummings, Ken Sansom, David Ogden Steirs, Jimmy Bennett
Director: Frank Nissen
Writers: Brian Hohlfeld, Evan Spiliotopoulos
Rated: G

The Scoop: Awakened by a rumbling that could only be made by the much-feared Heffalump, the Hundred Acre Wood crew sets forth to catch the dreaded creature. Disregarded as too young to partake in such a dangerous expedition, little Roo opts to search on his own – with far greater success than his friends. But in meeting a young, playful Heffalump named Lumpy, Roo quickly discovers that Heffalumps are nothing like the creatures of the ominous stories he's been told, and that the creature is equally afraid of his silly pals. Roo and Lumpy strike up a sweet friendship and work together to dispel the unfounded fears of their respective friends and families.

The Review:  We skipped Pooh's Heffalump Movie, but the little film is getting some pretty good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.  Michael Rechtshaffen of The Hollywood Reporter says, "On the heels of 1999's The Tigger Movie and 2003's Piglet's Big Movie, Pooh's Heffalump Movie is by far the best of the DisneyToon Studios bunch."

Pooh's Heffalump Movie rates 78% at Rotten Tomatoes.
