February 4, 2005 - Taito will release a cell-shaded videogame version of the popular comic Elemental Gerad (officially spelled in English as Erementar Gerad... don't they check these things first?), the company announced in this week's issue of Weekly Famitsu.

The Elemental Gerad comic is about this guy called Coud Van Giruet and a girl called Reverie Metherlence. Reverie transforms into a sword which is used by Coud in battle. Having debuted as a comic, the property will be turned into a cartoon this year.

In the game version, players select between Coud and a number of other characters from the comic and face off in one-on-one fights. In addition to standard fighting moves, you'll also find a few special attacks which make use of the special connection between a character and his weapon.

The game will feature four modes of play: story mode, single play, multi play and practice. Story mode follows the story of the comic. Screenshots reveal in-game cinemas used to recreate scenes from the original work. The other modes of play should be self-descriptive.

Development is currently at 40%. A Japanese release is set for this year.
