Darwinia For Dummies 10:08 am

Apparently the recently released Darwinia demo was a little too much for some to take in, so a new demo, complete with extra hand holding, will soon be available:
We are aware that a lot of people have been very confused by the demo of Darwinia, with no clear idea of what they're supposed to be doing. We have to admit to being slightly surprised by this, but we've obviously misjudged the amount of help that games players need. We are working on a new demo that will include a detailed tutorial that explains the concepts of Darwinia.
We're also aware of some issues with the registry that are popping up on a few systems, giving errors like "Failed to get CPU Vendor" and "Couldn't open registry value". These will be fixed in that demo.
For those requiring immediate assistance, check out their online tutorial.
Sam & Max 2 Clarification 08:36 am

I've received a few emails from adventure fans after they saw a GameSpot news story from yesterday that stated Sam & Max 2 was heading to Bad Brain Entertainment, despite the official BBE website stating otherwise. Due to this rather large error on GameSpot's behalf, the CEO of BBE has updated their news page with this clarification:
1. Negotiations with Lucas Arts failed. We won't get Sam & Max 2 (not the code, the artwork or anything else)
2. We don't yet have a deal with Steve Purcell but we are talking and we are talking to him since three month now. It was always our plan B to come up with when the Lucas Arts negotiations should fail.
3. When the second puzzle came, the only thing we knew was that we were negotiating Sam & Max 2. That was the only thing the 2nd puzzle was about. Telling what game it is, not the status. However the two who solved it got an answer and at this time we didn't hear from Lucas Arts for a long time. We weren't sure about the deal at all. Is it going to continue or to fail. Now we know for sure and we tell so.
4. The third puzzle wasn't about Sam & Max at all. Who said that?? I am absolutely sure I didn't!
5. I told Aventuraycia (the spanish website) that negotiations failed and that we are talking to Steve P. (the same I told you guys yesterday).
6. I didn't tell Gamespot anything like what they wrote. They called me at night and asked me about the news posted on Aventuraycia. I told them that there will be an offical statement on monday. Well after that call I decided to post the statement earlier (saturday).
I hope that clears things up. Maybe they simply wrote what they hoped to hear. But that is the status right now. Why would I ask for you support if everything would be ready and set? Why would I tell them anything else?? It makes completly no sense. I guess I only post news on Sam & Max again if there really is anything. Until you hear it from me in person or on the bad brain website: don't believe it because you hear it here and only here first!
Nintendo Revolution Renamed 21? 01:39 am

IGN has a round-up of the latest rumours surrounding the Nintendo Revolution, including one that suggests the next-generation console is known as the Nintendo 21, with the same source providing a drawing of the system:
Supposedly, the artist drew the picture from memory after seeing a document headed toward a Nintendo shareholder's meeting. The (very) rough sketch depicts a number of things, including a controller, shell case disk and a game system from two different angles. Emblazoned across the middle of the page is "Nintendo 21," which seems to indicate a name change from Revolution. Below that lies the "Nintendo 21" logo, which closely resembles the GameCube logo. It also serves to note that both angles of the system drawn on the page also resemble the GameCube, down to the placement of the four controller ports, as well as the "power," "reset" and "open" buttons.
Also on IGN you can read how Nintendo's George Harrison reacted to the suggestion that 2005 was a slow year for the GameCube.

FilePlanet and Warner Bros. will soon allow all members of the gaming file hub to stress test Monolith's The Matrix Online:
See how far the rabbit hole goes and be sure to keep your eye on FilePlanet because this limited key Beta Stress Test is coming very soon! Players of The Matrix Online will inhabit an enormous urban sprawl, which spreads for miles in all directions. There are subways, nightclubs, skyscrapers, and dark alleys that all seem normal on the surface, but beneath this pedestrian exterior, a secret war is being waged for the survival of humanity and machine alike.
Star Wars: Empire at War Preview 01:30 am

Yet another preview of LucasArts' latest real-time Star Wars strategy game, Empire at War:
You probably have something of a clear picture as to how Empire at War will play out, at this point, and if there's even an ounce of you that gets excited about breakthroughs in RTS design, then you're probably simmering with anticipation. Granted, we're yet to see how compelling both the space and land combat systems will prove to be, but given the developer's pedigree, things look pretty good. The multiplayer elements are just as exciting: the campaign mode can be played competitively by two players, and there will be a host of skirmish maps available, for competitors preferring a more conventional RTS experience.
Forza Motorsport Impressions 01:24 am

IGN's latest impressions of Microsoft's Forza Motorsport are now available to read:
The central means of progression in Forza is simply winning races. By placing in the top three places of any event, you'll earn CR (cash) and upon up cars or new races. The first set of races is pretty easy, but if you are having a difficult time in the beginning, you can go to Set Difficulty and switch between easy, medium and hard. You can also adjust options to make your game easier or harder. You can switch damage from cosmetic to limited to full; you can adjust fuel/tire wear from off to full, shifting is either automatic or manual, and you can turn off or on Anti-lock braking, traction, and stability. All of these factors affect your race in small but significant ways.

We called it before the movie had even started filming - Alone In The Dark The Movie is a big stinking pile of manure not worthy of even a rental. Having seen clips of Christian Slater acting... no wait, it wasn't acting, it was boredom... i'm inclined to agree. I might even be inclined to suggest that Resident Evil 2 is a better movie.
E3 will be pretty interesting this year, what with all 3 consoles there - maybe we can talk IGN into letting me go? March also has the launch of the PSP and DS over this way so I'll hopefully have units and games on hand to review. Other than that, I just want to play Battlefield 2.
What multiplayer enabled game(s) are you looking forward to in 2005? Question is valid for any platform.
