January 14, 2005 - While predominantly known as the indie-indie film festival that serves as a juxtaposition to the much bigger Sundance Film Festival, Park City's other cinematic gathering, The Slamdance Film Festival has announced that this year's fest will present a plethora of live music events to compliment their film offerings.

Mike Doughty, Price Paul, Bernie Worrell and Michael Franti (whose film I Know I Am Not Alone is the closing night film) have all been confirmed to perform during the festival, which will take over Park City, Utah between January 21 and 28.

Other musical acts scheduled to perform include Will Calhoun (former drummer from Living Color), Apex Theory, Elliott Sharp, Purr Bats, JW Blackout, The Rubes, Modern Soul Movement and Starmy.

The musical events will be held in a number of venues including Suede (Kimball Junction) for both the opening weekend and closing night parties, Brewvies in Salt
Lake City, and special festival events on Main Street in Park City.

Jan 15: Purr Bats and JW Blackout will play after a showing of a selection of Slamdance 2005 shorts at Brewvies in Salt Lake City.

Jan 21 (608 Main), 9:30 PM: Elliott Sharp
(Sharp, incidently, wrote the soundtrack for Slamdance 2005 Special Screening documentary Commune).

Jan 22: The Rubes and The Apex Theory will play after a showing of the Slamdance 2005 Special Screening film Male Fantasy at Brewvies in Salt Lake City.

Jan 23: Mike Doughty will headline at Suede (in Park City) with an exclusive solo acoustic set. Rockers The Apex Theory will do a performance visual art rock set as support, as well as live DJs spinning throughout the night. Event starts at 8 PM.

Jan. 27: Michael Franti of Spearhead will play a solo show at the 608 Interchange in support of his film, the Slamdance 2005 Closing Night documentary, I Know I'm Not Alone.

Jan 28: Prince Paul (of Handsome Boy Modeling School and De La Soul fame) will perform a live DJ set at Suede. Headlining will be funk pioneers keyboardist Bernie Worrell (founding member of P-Funk, subject of Slamdance 2005 documentary short, Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth), drummer Will Calhoun), and bassist Doug Wimbish.

Jan 29: Modern Soul Movement and Starmy will play after a showing of the Slamdance 2005 Narrative Competition film, Phil The Alien, at Brewvies in Salt Lake City.
