January 21, 2005 - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron is lining up his next few projects. While there have been rumors that Cuaron might return for a future installment in the Harry Potter franchise, after directing the especially well-received third installment, it seems he's content to develop other original projects.

According to today's Variety, Cuaron will direct a big-screen adaptation of Nicole Krauss' forthcoming novel The History of Love for Warner Bros. Cuaron would reteam with Potter producer David Heyman on the film.

The History of Love reportedly tells the story of a long-lost book that mysteriously reappears and connects an old man searching for his son with a girl looking to cure her mother's loneliness. 

"It's a book that requires real tenderness without being overly sentimental, and that is something Alfonso does very well," said Heyman.

Cuaron was also recently attached to The Memory of Running, based on a book of the same name by Ron McLarty.  That book tells the story of a 40-something factory worker, an overweight alcoholic, still distraught by the death of his parents in a car accident when he learns that his sister has also died on the other side of the country. Upon learning this news he embarks on a bicycle trip across the country to claim his sister's body. Naturally, he meets strange characters and becomes involved in odd situations along the way.

Cuaron is also set to direct the The Children of Men, a science fiction drama, and a film about the Mexican student uprising of 1968, Mexico '68.
