December 03, 2004 - There is no question that Lindsay Lohan is the it girl of the moment. And when I say it girl, I mean IT girl. The easiest way to measure someone's "it factor," at least when we're talking about celebrities, is by the amount of ink they generate in the tabloids. And lately Lohan has more or less bumped Ashlee, Jessica, Britney the Olsen Twins, and just about every other post-tween femme fatale idol from being cover stories to languishing in the back pages. A lot of this had to do with an unscheduled visit to the hospital for exhaustion, her steamy romance with That '70s Show's Wilmer Valderrama, and her on again/off again "feud" with fellow Disney cutie Hillary Duff.

Beyond the above events, which have turned Lohan into tabloid fodder, she's also one of the hottest commodities in Hollywood, thanks to her past track record with sleeper hits such as Freak Friday and Mean Girls. And she's creating massive buzz in regards to her role in the forthcoming Herbie: Fully Loaded, Disney's remake of their 1968 classic, The Love Bug.

But Lohan's film career (she has no less than six films going into production at the moment) isn't the only thing that's generating buzz. In a move that is becoming de rigueur for young actors these days, Lohan has made the move into singing and will be releasing her debut album, entitled Speak, on Tuesday December 7th, 2004. While her move into the world of music may seem sudden, Lohan actually has a few songs under her belt, most notably contributions to both the Freaky Friday and Confessions of A Teenage Drama Queen soundtracks.

At any rate, given her popularity as a film star, the fact that her lead single "Rumors" has already become a hit, and juicy tabloid fare in the form of her recent break-up with Valderrama, saying that Lohan is in demand at this point of her life is a vast understatement.

I actually got to experience the wave of excitement and chaos that currently surrounds the 19-old starlet, even getting buffered around in the ensuing wake that ripples behind her. Let me explain. Lohan was scheduled to call me at 10:45 AM on Tuesday November 30th for a 15-minute interview. However, mere minutes before our pre-arranged chat somebody from her record label contacted me and relayed that Lindsay had been on the phone all morning and needed a break. As such, she would instead be calling me between noon and 1 o'clock. Not only that, but due to the increasing demands on her time, my 15-minutes were being cut to 10.

Noon came and went. Then 12:15. 12:30. 12:45. 1:00. My phone rang a little after 1 and when I picked up the receiver, I distinctly heard women's voices on the other end. Then whoever it was hung up. Time ticked by so more. 1:15. 1:20. 1:25. Finally I IM'd the publicist who had originally set up the interviews in an attempt to find out what was happening.
