Man vs. Machine: NFL Week 11
The Cowboys season is lost, yet they're not willing to look at their young quarterback, throw him into the fire and see if he's their future? Doesn't make sense to me, especially when Testaverde is playing so bad, making so many errors, that his team virtually has zero chance of winning when he lines up behind the center. So I guess it's no surprise that I look at that Dallas/Baltimore game as a complete blowout. Let's see, a defense that likes to run back interceptions for touchdowns against a man who loves to throw the ball to the players wearing the opposite colors (remember when people thought Vinny was colorblind?). Ed Reed is already smiling. He's probably had this game circled on his calendar for the last couple of weeks.
One game you should circle on your calendar is the Detroit/Minnesota matchup. Both teams need a win to keep the playoff pace, and this could turn into an entertaining shootout. I think this is the game Minnesota gets back on track and back in the win column, but one thing about those Lions, you can never count them out. Through the first ten weeks of the season, I've been dominating the video game simulators in the picks. Even though the rosters are updated and the simulations are as close to what can actually be simulated in a video game, there is nothing that can replace simply watching the season transpire and using your gut to make picks. The computers don't know how bad players like Jeff Garcia and Vinny Testaverde actually play because in the end, they put up decent stats. Until a computer can actually simulate a clutch rating, I think man is going to continue to beat the machines. Last week was no different as I predicted 10 out of 14 games correctly, and former All-Pro turned IGN Sports "expert picker" predicted 9 of the winners. On the machine side, Madden had a good week, going 8-6, while ESPN NFL 2K5 continued its struggles, finishing with a 6-8 mark. Here is a look at the records throughout the season so far 1. Jon Robinson: 90-54 2. Lomas Brown: 32-24 (only picked four weeks) 3. Madden NFL 2005: 74-70 4. ESPN NFL 2K5: 69-75
