The force is definitely on the Xbox's side. There is an upcoming game that will introduce the happenings before the first release�as a matter of fact, set 4000 years before the first film, in the Golden Age of the Republic. Yeah, you probably guessed right, Star Wars is coming to the Xbox once again and Lucas Arts is hitting it straight up in RPG style, with their newest game entitled Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Now you are probably thinking something like, "Oh jeese, another Star Wars game?" Yeah, that is correct, another Star Wars game, but this one isn't going to be 'just another Star Wars game', my friend. Customizable characters, fast paced mini games, and much much more will make this one of the top contending titles of the genre!
You are the Jedi. Customizing your characters is always an A+ for a game. Choose stats before the gameplay begins while building your character throughout the game, then choose what you want your character to wear. The suit you put your character in will change how your character is perceived. Customizing your character is what will make it yours.
"Let's spice it up a bit." That is exactly what LucasArts and BioWare had to have had in mind while creating this game. Mini games can easily add a lot of depth to a game, especially when we are talking about ones like riding swoop bikes, manning turret guns, or even playing battle chess. You can expect many fun secondary games to play throughout the main storyline. Secret areas can make the game more interesting, letting you find some items or giving you a short cut somewhere else. Once again, this game has a pretty interesting feature. Depending on who is in your party or whether you are on the dark side or the light side, you will be limited to secret areas. Pretty cool, huh?
With graphic powers like those of the Xbox , and the imagination coming from LucasArts, where can you go wrong? I would have to say there are two sides to the game: indoor and outdoor play. The indoor scenes looks boring, something you can see in a lot of other Star Wars games. The textures look very bland, basically not enough detail put into it. But when you step outside, you are in a whole new ballpark. The rocks, the grass, and the sun are all simply amazing. This is where the true beauty of the game jumps out at you.
Let's build a model. The character and creature models all look decent. Especially seen the creature models such as the Rodain and the grappling spider. Lighting on the models look good, textures on the models look good also. Overall, the models are pretty well done. The only con I have is with the 'hairy' models, such as the Wookies. The textures seem to be pretty repetitive.
Do you hear me? LucasArts claims to take advantage of the Xbox's audio power, giving the game 3D sound. They also claim to have a powerful 'lip-syncing' tool which will make the words that characters speak look accurate to each character�s mouth movements. Now that, my friend, is one hell of a combination�3D sound with accurate sound movements!
So what do you think? I think that the game seems great, overall. Yes, there might be a few drawbacks but every game has just that. This game is definitely going on my to buy list this fall.
