The first version of the Blockchain Certificate was functional, but difficult to use and understand. After talking with WordProof users and their visitors, we proudly present the renewed Blockchain Certificate! In this WordProof Update, you will see the new Certificate and read more about other developments.

To start: WordProof now pays CPU resources for all our users’ timestamps. Due to large volume on the EOS network, some users noticed that their timestamps did not go through correctly. A great way to go forward!

New users for WordProof Timestamp automatic

It has been one month since the onboarding for My WordProof opened and we have welcomed many new people trying and using WordProof Timestamp. The video below shows you how the setup works, available with French and Spanish subtitles as well, thanks to community members Sam & Rochelle!

Blockchain Certificate 2.0

Both websites using WordProof Timestamp to protect their content, as well as the visitors of those websites, had a hard time interpreting the Blockchain Certificate. The new Blockchain Certificate is easier to understand and easier to use, with some interesting new features.

Indication of trust for website visitors

The opening screen has two versions: the content is WordProof or the content is not WordProof. We consider content not WordProof if it changed since the last timestamp. What does the website have to hide for it to change the content without giving visitors the tools to hold them accountable?

Compare revisions

The certificate has a new feature: revision compare. Visitors are able (if the website has activated the option) to compare different versions of the same content, so they can see how it developed over time. Transparency leads to a more trustworthy internet: give your visitors the tools they need!

Accessibility

Accessibility expert Rian Rietveld (from Dutch WordPress agency Level Level) has helped us to make the new certificate accessible for everyone. Although this is an ongoing process that hasn’t finished yet, we are excited to see where the new certificate can go!

Media timestamps —Images, Videos, PDFs

Media timestamps are (almost!) fully integrated into WordProof Timestamp and the My WordProof portal. You can timestamp your media files directly from your WordPress Media Library. Soon, you will be able to download the blockchain certificates of those media files!

Effect Force translating WordProof Timestamp

Our partner Effect.AI is translating WordProof Timestamp into many different languages. The WordProof Timestamp video is now available with Spanish and French subtitles, while the new certificate is being translated in +15 languages. More on this coming soon!

WordProof Timestamp 2.0: Automatic Timestamps

It was two months ago when we started working on what was called We Stamp For You, the automated version of WordProof Timestamp. Now, it is has left the beta phase: onboarding is open!

The service has been in private beta for several publishers and was used over the last few weeks, having timestamped over 128,000 pieces of quality content on the blockchain. We are confident that the technology works and is ready to protect and enforce the rest of the websites on the internet.

Here are the improvements in WordProof Timestamp 2.0!

Automatic timestamps on the background

After connecting your WordPress website to the WordProof Timestamp service, all of your content (or just specific post types, it’s up to you!) will be timestamped automatically. Every revision will be saved.

Important: you can still use the manual timestamps (and we will continue to improve it). The timestamps are exactly the same: you can even use automatic timestamps with your own blockchain account.

Onboarding process

The WordProof Timestamp sign-up is available at https://my.wordproof.io. After entering your website URL, first name, email address and password, you can choose a plan or start the trial. Annual paid plans have a bonus in the form of additional timestamps, so you can protect existing content as well.

My WordProof — The heart of your WordProof account

Once you have an account, you enter My WordProof. Some features:

• List of all your timestamps, including tools to ‘retry’ timestamps that did not process correctly;
• Downloadable blockchain certificates, to proof you had content X at time Y on website Z. Every certificate includes the title, URL, raw input, hash and URL of the blockchain transaction. Every revision will get its own blockchain certificate. This feature will be released before the end of October, so more will be explained by then. If you need to download a certificate before then, get in touch and it will be sent to you.
• WordProof Copyright Infringement Letter Tool to help you with copycats. Since you timestamped your content on the blockchain and have proof of ownership at certain moments in time via the downloadable blockchain certificates, you can use this tool to generate a personalised Copyright Infringement Letter crated by our lawyers. It has been used by several WordProof users with great results. For more: read the Blom & Blom case study later on. The Tool will be released in October, but it is available upon request as of now.

Improved WordProof Timestamp plugin for WordPress

The WordPress plugin has been updated and is available in the WordPress.org Plugin Repository.

• It now supports automatic timestamps and has a redesigned plugin options.
• There is a Setup Wizard (thank you Remkus de Vries for your incredible feedback) to help you set-up the plugin in minutes (both for the Manual and Automatic configurations).

Coming Soon: The new Blockchain Certificate

Over the last few months, digital design agency Buro Ponzo and accessibility expert Rian Rietveld from Level Level have helped us to completely redesign the Blockchain Certificate. The new version is easier to understand for website visitors and includes an interesting new feature: comparing text between revisions.

If revisions are enabled, website visitors can see how content changed over time. This increases the trust visitors have in the website, since they have nothing to hide. The new Certificate will be added to the WordPress plugin later this month.

WordProof Puts Content Trusted Timestamping on EOSIO Blockchains.

To secure articles of indebuurt in the blockchain, indebuurt uses the services of Dutch blockchain startup WordProof.

WordPress is huge and borderless. The same goes for blockchain technology, as the first blockchains — like Bitcoin — were also designed to be borderless. This means that WordPress has great tools to support multiple languages, which we can use for WordProof Timestamp. Remember: WordPress (and the plugins & themes) are translated into many languages by the community.

We hope to accomplish the same and you can help!

How to translate WordProof Timestamp into your language

• Step 1: Go to the Translation portal and Log in with your WordPress.com account (or create one!)
• Step 2: Select the language you would like to translate WordProof Timestamp to (for example: you speak English and German, so you select German)
• Step 3: Search for WordProof Timestamp in the plugin section.
• Step 4: Select the Stable (latest release) set and start translating!

After translating the strings (the Timestamp Certificate currently exists of 24 strings, so it won’t take that long!), the translations are under review. We cannot publish them: the experts of your language will review them first. It can take a few hours or a few days, but your translation will be reviewed.

For blockchain enthusiasts, timestamping articles on the blockchain is super easy. However, for website owners who don’t know anything about blockchain, using WordProof Timestamp is still difficult. Although all the UX efforts we’re doing at WordProof have great impact, timestamping still requires a fully configured wallet, an account on the blockchain and more. EOSwriter is a launching customer of WordProof Timestamp’s ‘We Stamp For You’. Check any article on their website to see WordProof Timestamp’s ‘We Stamp For You’ in action.

Unique ‘We Stamp For You’ features:

• Real-time protection — New articles or revisions will be timestamped on the background in seconds;
• Time machine — scroll through all revisions of content (this feature is optional). See it in this article: ‘WordProof just made history on the EOS Blockchain.’
• Protect the past — New content will be timestamped automatically, but what about the valuable content you already published? It was possible to timestamp older content already, but instead of the 1-by-1 approach, we introduce a feature to timestamp them in batches.

‘We Stamp For You’ will be accessible to everyone soon. The coming weeks we will accept some testers of the service. Install the open-source WordProof Timestamp plug-in, and request a ‘We Stamp For You’ key to get started.

But, isn’t that a centralized solution, the opposite of decentralization?

After talking with literally hundreds of potential users, we discovered that there are several use cases. The two major use cases being:

• Sometimes, timestamping is about the possibility to prove who wrote what as an extension of corporate governance. In this case, it makes sense to have the writers and editors sign content manually with personal blockchain accounts (you have to be sure it’s them!).
• However, there are also publishers with tens of editors who care about proving integrity as an organization and about protecting content, without having to connect individual identity to articles.

In that case, a “We Stamp For You”-services makes a lot of sense. Without having to manually timestamp everything, all new pieces of content are protected via the blockchain in seconds.

Keys and Permissions for WordProof

In EOSIO, you have an advanced permission system designed to keep you safe and to make services like We Stamp For You available safely and securely.

By default, your EOS-account has an active and an owner key. WordProof works with an additional, limited key, that only has the permission to timestamp on your behave. This permission can be revoked anytime. How to participate

Even though the WordProof Timestamp for WordPress plugin was already available for download on WordPress.org, the React JS files can now be examined by talented developers worldwide. However, non-developers can help too: blockchain is difficult to use, help us in making it easier!

Release Cycles

To manage the new features, platforms, partnerships and improvements, we work with Release Cycles. New features and improvements are tested thoroughly so every new release will noticeably improve the quality of WordProof Timestamp, after which a new update (with new features, platforms and improvements) is released every other week.

Timestamp Standard

As we continued to develop new features for WordProof Timestamp, we noticed that several hashes became invalid. The reason was rather logical: the contents of a timestamped article had changed. In the very first version of WordProof Timestamp, only the title and content of an article were timestamped. Later, we added the date and time to this mix.

Of course, this caused the hash to change — even though the authors of the timestamped content did not alter their content. It became clear that we needed to think of a Timestamp Standard to make timestamps backward compatible.

WebArticle 0.1 Draft

To make the web a safer place, a flexible standard is needed, since there are many types of content (web articles, PDFs, images). This first draft is a pragmatic start. We invite individuals, big teams and companies to write this standard with us!

We know that there is a lot of room for improvement in the Timestamp Standard we published on GitHub and that is exactly why we published it. A universal standard should not be crafted by the hands of a small team, but by opening a conversation with talented people worldwide. This v0.1 draft aims to do just that. OpenTimestamps

WordProof is chain agnostic and should also be standard agnostic. We are aware of OpenTimestamps, a great initiative for timestamping full documents. Our standard focusses on structuring content data. We can imagine our standard being the structured input for OpenTimestamps in the future.

The road ahead

Our vision is to have an improved version of the timestamp standard — one supported by important players in the content industry — at the end of Q3. However, we need your help.
