This logo was derived from an acceptance mark introduced in late 1959. The card was also licensed to banks in other countries, with each using localized brand names. In 1966, it was launched in the UK as Barclaycard, 1967 in France as Carte Bleue, in 1968 in Canada as Chargex, and in 1971 in Brazil as Cartão Elo.
Bank of America relinquished control of the system in 1970 to a new firm known as National BankAmericard Inc. (NBI). International operations were assumed by the International Bankcard Company (IBANCO) in 1974.
