The base64 approach to binary file transfer is corrupted at 175KB and fails entirely at 20MB. The Box MCP server handles both in under 30 seconds. See it in action working end to end in Anthropic's Claude. Summarize an annual report PDF, add a key takeaways page, and re-upload as a new version. Signed URLs. No binary data in the LLM context. What does responsible AI adoption actually look like inside a municipal government managing 53 agencies and serving some of the most vulnerable populations in the country? Our CCO Jon Herstein reflects on his conversation with Suma Nallapati, CIO of the City and County of Denver, and the answer is more practical and more instructive than most enterprise AI case studies you will read this year. Denver's AI-powered virtual assistant Sunny now handles resident requests 24 hours a day in 72 languages, cutting 311 transaction costs from $4.75 to $0.35 while maintaining service levels after a 30% budget-driven reduction in staff. But the bigger takeaway is not the numbers. It is the mindset. AI should amplify the signal, reduce the noise, and get the right human to the right information faster. Not replace human judgment. Not move faster than governance allows. And not be deployed on unstructured, ungoverned content and expected to produce reliable results. For IT and technology leaders navigating the same pressures, this post is one of the most practical reads on enterprise AI governance and adoption available right now. Join us next Friday right here on LinkedIn for a conversation with Aaron Levie (Box) about the future of work and human leadership in the AI moment. Registration and details below ⬇️
AI is beginning to disrupt the workplace. Some companies are cutting tens of thousands of white-collar roles as AI agents take over routine tasks. Others are scrambling to hire skilled workers to build the infrastructure behind the AI boom. Across industries, leaders are reassessing what kinds of talent they need, how teams should operate and where human judgment still matters most. Our WP Intelligence editors Luiza Savage and Yun-Hee Kim Hee Kim will lead a discussion with Aaron Levie, CEO and Co-founder of Box on how executives and policymakers are responding. Join us to discover: 1️⃣ Which jobs are becoming more valuable — not less? 2️⃣ How do employees adapt — from new graduates to seasoned professionals? 3️⃣ How should institutions change as AI begins to reshape the structure of work?

The Box MCP server now supports binary file upload and download. And the architecture behind it solves one of the most stubborn problems in agentic file editing. Until now, the standard approach was to base64 encode binary files and pass them through the LLM context window. It works on paper. In production it falls apart completely. Context bloat. Payload failures. Multi-minute latency. And at 175KB, corrupted files. At 20MB, complete failure. Box bypasses the LLM context window entirely using temporary, single-use signed URLs. Agents transfer binary files directly between Box storage and local execution environments using standard curl commands. No binary data ever touches the model context. The performance difference is stark. A 20MB PDF that fails entirely with the base64 approach transfers in roughly 30 seconds with Box. And the architecture is built for enterprise from the ground up, with short-lived URL expirations, OAuth session binding for complete audit attribution, and strict admin opt-in controls. Without bidirectional file editing, an agent behaves lessmore like an autonomous coworker. and more like an advanced search interface. This closes that gap. Claude Code. Claude connected to Box via MCP. Box Drive. All working from the same company brain. Our demo shows what that looks like when it actually works for a team. The first wave of AI knowledge bases made individuals more productive. The next wave will help entire teams operate from the same trusted context. A founder updates a product decision in Box. An engineer uses Claude Code against the same folder through Box Drive to update the PRD and agent instructions. A customer success lead uses Claude connected to Box through MCP to generate an onboarding guide grounded in the latest approved context. Everything syncs back to one shared source of truth in Box. Different teammates. Different tools. Whatever comes next. The company brain stays current, governed, and compounding because Box is the governed memory layer underneath all of it. Watch here. 👇

Nomura Research Institute (NRI) is one of Japan's leading consulting firms, with a mission to build a sustainable society through value co-creation with customers. Since adopting Box in 2019, NRI has steadily expanded how it uses intelligent content management, ultimately becoming the first company in Japan to implement Box Enterprise Advanced. How they achieved success: ⭐ Box AI Studio: Custom AI agents now draft initial versions of compliance-heavy sustainability reports automatically ⭐ Box Apps: Automated metadata extraction replaced manual contract data entry entirely ⭐ Box AI Agents: Common IT help desk tickets are now handled autonomously, freeing staff for strategic work Tatsutoshi Murata, Head of IT Strategy Department, NRI, shared: "By centralizing dispersed internal information assets and integrating data with workflows through advanced, seamlessly connected AI capabilities, we aim to boost productivity across our entire organization." For enterprise leaders looking to move beyond isolated efficiency gains toward organization-wide AI transformation, NRI's story is a clear example of what becomes possible when secure content management and agentic AI work together. Search is updated across Box and it is a foundational infrastructure upgrade that changes what enterprise search can actually do. Enterprise search has lagged behind Google for decades. Not because the problem was unsolvable but because the structural barriers, too few signals, too much access restriction, too much reliance on keyword matching, were never properly addressed. Until now. Here is what is new: - 4 to 10x faster search results across both Quick Search and Full Search, so users and AI agents get to the right content faster than ever before - Indexing time reduced from 15 minutes to seconds, meaning files are available to search almost immediately after they are created - Stronger foundation for AI agents, with public APIs that expose the same context retrieval capabilities native Box agents use to perform intelligent, deep-document search across large volumes of unstructured enterprise content - Improved relevance and stronger non-English support for global teams working across languages and content types The speed improvement matters for users. It matters even more for AI agents. When files are indexed in seconds rather than minutes, agents are always working with the most current information in your enterprise. All at any scale, including folders of 1 billion files, as in this example. Read the full announcement here. 👇 https://lnkd.in/geqc5KGZ

Document generation, storage, signatures, and governance. All in one compliant environment. This is what the full document lifecycle looks like on Box. 👇
We kept hearing the same thing from compliance-focused HubSpot customers: "We can generate the document. We just don't know where it ends up." S-Docs generates it. PandaDoc looks great. DocuSign collects the signature. But none of them have a strong answer to: where does this document live for the next 7 years, and can you prove who had access to it? Box does. It's literally what Box is built for. So we built DocGen for Box Connector — document generation from HubSpot data, stored directly in Box, signed with Box Sign. The whole lifecycle in one compliant environment. Templates built in Word. Triggered manually or by HubSpot workflow. Generated document goes straight into Box with all your existing permissions and governance intact. Signature request fires from Box Sign. Executed copy stays in Box. No handoffs. No gaps. No "I think Sarah has a copy." We're two-time Box Ecosystem Partner of the Year for a reason. This is the problem we exist to solve. https://lnkd.in/eNdWhS3K

Notion Custom Agents just got a lot more powerful for enterprises running on Box. The Box MCP server is now available within Notion Custom Agents, giving teams a way to ground any Notion agent in their enterprise content without compromising the governance and permissions they already depend on. Every agent interaction stays within the boundaries of what the user is authorized to access inside Box. The use cases are broad. Onboarding assistants. Sales enablement agents. Project status agents. Customer support copilots. Executive briefing agents. Any Notion agent that benefits from being grounded in your actual enterprise content rather than general knowledge. And with the Box Content Intelligence Agent template, teams can get started quickly with a prebuilt agent designed to securely access, search, analyze, and act on content stored in Box. This is what it looks like when your content layer and your workflow layer work together. Learn more here. 👇 https://lnkd.in/gbZz55S3

OpenAI just announced a new set of features within Codex to help accelerate and bring AI to knowledge work. As a part of this announcement they demonstrated what's possible when you use software in a headless fashion with agents that can connect to your various tools, including with Box. This is a great glimpse into what the future of knowledge work is going to look like when you can hand off a task to an agent and it can work through your various IT systems --like Box, Salesforce, Atlassian, Slack, Snowflake, Databricks-- and others to grab data, connect to workflows, and ultimately execute tasks for you. Whether it's planning for a customer meeting, generating a sales deck for a client, figuring out new risks in the product roadmap delivery, or onboarding clients faster, there are a near infinite set of ways we can start to deploy agents across our enterprise workflows. At Box, we're building the intelligent content management platform to help you work with your agents wherever they come from (including Codex, Claude Cowork, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini, IBM Watsonx, Salesforce Agentforce, and more), and ensure you have a secure, governed platform for managing your most important unstructured data. Exciting to work with OpenAI on their agentic efforts, and stay tuned for many more announcements like this.
