David Janssen

David Janssen, pseudonimo di David Harold Meyer (Naponee, 27 marzo 1931 – Malibù, 13 febbraio 1980), è stato un attore statunitense, noto soprattutto per il ruolo del dott. Richard Kimble nella serie televisiva Il fuggiasco.

Biografia

David Janssen nasce a Naponee (Nebraska), come David Harold Meyer. Il padre Harold Edward Meyer era banchiere e la madre, Berniece Graf, fu Miss Nebraska e una Ziegfeld girl.^[1] Dopo il divorzio dei genitori nel 1935, la madre si sposta a Los Angeles e sposa Eugene Janssen nel 1940. David prenderà il cognome del patrigno come nome d'arte.^[2]

Janssen frequenta la Fairfax High School (Los Angeles), dove pratica basket. Il primo film di debutto è recitato all'età di 13 anni e fino all'età di 25 anni partecipa a una ventina di produzioni e serve per due anni nel United States Army. Durante il servizio militare diventa amico di Martin Milner e Clint Eastwood a Fort Ord, California.^[3]^[4]

Janssen fu sposato due volte, con Ellie Graham dal 1958 al 1968.^[5]^[6] Nel 1964, ebbe una relazione con Suzanne Pleshette.^[7] Nel 1975, sposa Dani Crayne, e rimarranno assieme fino alla morte di lui nel 1980.^[8]

Janssen fu forte bevitore e tabagista, fumava fino a quattro pacchetti di sigarette al giorno.^[9] Morì per infarto cardiaco la mattina del 13 febbraio 1980, nella villa di Malibu California, all'età di 48 anni.^[6]^[10] All'epoca stava girando il telefilm Father Damien. Janssen fu sepolto al Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery a Culver City, California.^[11]

Il funerale ebreo si tenne nella cappella del cimitero il 17 febbraio. Suzanne Pleshette fece l'elogio funebre su richiesta della vedova. Milton Berle, Johnny Carson, Tommy Gallagher, Richard Harris, Carl Weathers, Stan Herman, Rod Stewart, e Gregory Peck furono tra i presenti alla cerimonia portabara. Altri furono Jack Lemmon, George Peppard, James Stewart, e Danny Thomas.^[12]^[13]

Per il contributo alla industria televisiva David Janssen ha una stella alla Hollywood Walk of Fame al 7700 block of Hollywood Boulevard.^[14]
